Prep Profile – Tilton

There isn’t a class AA program with a stronger recent tradition than the Tilton School Rams. With four consecutive NEPSAC championships that spanned from 2008 to 2011, and another trip to the finals in 2012, head coach Marcus O’Neil’s club was simply the standard by which others were judged. That tradition also includes a long line of highly talented individual players including the likes of Alex Oriakhi, Jamal Coombs, Gerard Coleman, Wayne Selden, Georges Niang, and others. Current senior Terance… READ MORE >

Mike Mannix is not your average first year head coach. While he may be sliding over a chair following the departure of former head coach Chris Sparks, Mannix has been intimately involved with every aspect of the program since 2009 when he arrived at WMA after previously serving on the coaching staff at Drexel. Mannix also returns a strong nucleus from last year’s WMA squad that he’ll look to build around this season. First and foremost is Curtis Cobb, the… READ MORE >

Eight days after wrapping up the last of his official visits, Aaron Falzon was ready to make his decision on Monday morning and he committed to Northwestern as was first reported by ESPN.com. The decision ended what had been a long, and sometimes tumultuous, process that ultimately ended with two choices – Harvard and Northwestern – which he visited in consecutive weeks. “This was the toughest decision I’ve ever seen an NMH basketball player have to make because both programs… READ MORE >

Putnam Science Academy post-graduate big man Vincent Eze made a verbal commitment to Manhattan on Thursday afternoon, becoming the second frontcourt player to commit to the Jaspers in a matter of hours. Manhattan started the day with a pledge from Cardinal Hayes (NY) and New Heights big man A.K. Ojo, whose presence inside the lane at six-foot-eleven will presumably allow Eze to slide over to the power forward position down the road. An interior tandem of Ojo and Eze has… READ MORE >

Prep Profile – Worcester Academy

Worcester Academy has had two very different types of teams in the last two years, and this season, head coach Jamie Sullivan is undoubtedly looking to combine the best of both. Two years ago, Sullivan’s roster had terrific talent but lacked ideal chemistry. They earned the top seed in the Class AA tournament but were upset by St. Andrew’s. Last year the roles were reversed, Worcester had all the intangibles to reflect their head coach’s philosophy but lacked the same… READ MORE >

Wilbraham & Monson Academy post-graduate forward Derick Newton made a verbal commitment to Stetson on Friday night. Newton had only been in the New England prep ranks for little over a month but had already made a strong impression with college coaches, drawing a strong amount of attention from low to mid-major division I programs. The six-foot-six forward has a terrific basketball body with muscle mass and definition alike to match his very long arms. His skill set includes range… READ MORE >

With all six NEPSAC AAA programs having now been previewed, we’ll turn our attention to Class AA where Cushing Academy is the defending two-time champions. Things are very different for head coach Barry Connors’ squad this season though as they are now without their staring backcourt of Kaleb Joseph and Jalen Adams. Fortunately for the Penguins though they’ve reloaded with a post-graduate guard from Spain and a highly talented sophomore trio. The task of filling those big backcourt shoes will… READ MORE >

As Whit Lesure prepares for his 18th season at Bridgton Academy, he’s experienced both the highs and the lows that go along with leading a prep school program for that long a tenure, especially at a school that has had varying philosophies over the years. Ten years ago, Lesure was on the verge of leading Bridgton to a period of unprecedented success as they’d capture the NEPSAC three-peat, winning the class A crown in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Things began… READ MORE >
