The success of the NERR-TV Unsigned Senior Virtual Showcase is undeniable. All 50 prospects in the class of 2020 that participated last spring went on to see recruitment from new schools, with more than 25 generating interest from scholarship level schools. In 2021, we’re profiled 46 players so far, 20 of whom are already off the board after early-decision admission, which is a huge accomplishment in a recruiting cycle like we’ve seen this year. When the pandemic hit and the recruiting world was shut down, the NERR-TV Unsigned Senior Showcase was born out of necessity. After nearly 15 years of hosting the best showcases in the region, we pivoted to a virtual showcase, which was the first of its kind. Admittedly, we couldn't be sure how it would go. But when it was all said and done, the results exceeded even our most ambitious hopes. There were 50 players profiled in the class of…

This has been a year unlike any other, but one of the silver linings at NERR has been the growth of The Upside Podcast and the ways in which we've tried to use that platform over the course of the last year. There were 32 new episodes of The Upside published in 2020. We had former local products and current NBA players like Georges Niang, Duncan Robinson, and Michael Carter-Williams. The Be Seen Tour has ventured beyond New England on a number of occasions this fall.
Most recently, we went to Pennsylvania to see Scotland Campus, a still relatively new prep program under the leadership of legendary coach Chris Chaney.
They've only been around a few years but already made waves in the prep world, placing numerous D1 players, making the National Prep Championship field every year, and advancing all the way to the finals in 2019.

Brewster Academy and PSA Cardinals big man Mac Etienne will be joining UCLA for the winter quarter, per a release earlier this week. Etienne committed to UCLA less than a month ago and will now make the move to join the Bruin program immediately. His decision is not unprecedented, especially in times like these. Former Putnam Science guard Hamidou Diallo left mid-way through his post-grad year to join Kentucky but red-shirted until the next fall. Etienne now plans to do…

The grassroots season may be well behind us, but the Mass Rivals were in the headlines last week as the alums kept delivering good news. Tyler Burton was named the Player of the Week in the Atlantic 10. Then David Duke was named the Player of the Week in the Big East. A.J. Reeves knocked down his latest game-winning three for Providence on Sunday and Boo Buie dropped 30 points for Northwestern in a win over Michigan State. Thus it…

Today is a big day on the basketball calendar, but not one that you’ll see get much attention on social media. Today is the last day of the NBA off-season and so it is the day that various NBA teams waive players or assign them to the G-League. Many of the players that will get that unfortunate news will be the very same that were celebrated on twitter in recent weeks with “welcome to the NBA” posts on social media. …

Mohegan Sun was the host site for one of college basketball’s first ‘bubbles’ in 2020. Naismith Hall of Fame Vice President of Basketball Operations, Greg Procino takes us inside the logistics of pulling-off the ‘minor miracle’ of hosting 27 games in these unprecedented times. We also explore the possibility that 'Bubbleville' will become the template for how the college season ends if conference tournaments or the NCAA Tournament are forced to go to a bubble set-up. The Upside with Adam…

Southern Connecticut State University and head coach Scott Burrell had already landed a local Connecticut native that most considered a D1 lock when Winchendon School's Mason Romano committed earlier this fall. On Friday, they landed perhaps an even bigger prize when Prince Tech alum and Lee Academy post-graduate Kazell Stewart opted to follow suit. Both Romano and Stewart are products of the New Haven Heat grassroots program. Stewart put up huge numbers at Prince Tech but is a player who…
