Five Star Basketball has just concluded it's second session at Springfield College held August 2-5. The talent level of the Springfield Session 2 certainly surpassed that of the first session in July as there were players on hand from Virginia to Chicago and even as far as Germany. Dino Mallios is heading to St. Anselm’s College on a full scholarship. The Nike Global Challenge kicks off this Friday in Oregon. The event is the culmination of Nike’s grassroots calendar for the year and features 30 of the top high school players in the country, as chosen from the Lebron James Skills Academy. The Winchendon School had three incoming players in the top 20 all-star game but the guy who continues to make a name for himself is Latif Rivers who will play at Avon Old Farms next year. One noticeable omission from last weeks’ coverage of AAU’s 16-and-under National Championships was the Middlesex Magic. The Magic were one of three teams in their pool to finish 1-2 and were sent to the classic bracket because of the tiebreaker rules. But that’s where their terrific run began.
