Desrosiers Makes Pick

Carson Desrosiers made a verbal commitment to Wake Forest on Wednesday morning, the day after Demon Deacons head coach Dino Gaudio and his staff did an in-home visit with Desrosiers and his family.

Desrosiers took an official visit to Wake Forest two weeks ago and visited Arizona State officially this past weekend.  He was scheduled to head to Marquette for his third and final official this upcoming weekend, but decided he had seen all he needed to make his decision.

"After the ASU visit I knew it was pretty much between them and Wake, and after spending a couple of days thinking about it I was ready to make my decision.  Last night's visit just re-assured me," Desrosiers told the New England Recruiting Report.

"It was really just great timing," Desrosiers said.  "Wake Forest was very good last year, they're going to be very good again this year, they have a top 10 recruiting class coming in, and they're one of the top 25 academic schools in the country."

Wake Forest didnt jump into the Desrosiers sweepstakes until late but Gaudio and his staff came after the Central Catholic big man hard and layed out a clear program for how he would be succesful for them on the court.

"Coach Gaudio was really determined.  They came on late but they really pursued me hard," Desrosiers said, "They have a good cast of 5-men but they didn't have any other skilled big men who could play inside and out at the four like me."

Although Desrosiers is now a consensus top 100 player in the country, he wasn't always considered to be a high major prospect.

"It was the farthest thing from my mind when I was in the 8th and 9th grade," he said.  "But I started to play with the Mass Rivals during my freshman year and we traveled all across the country playing against great competition.  The summer before my sophomore year I started hearing from a bunch of coaches and that's when I realized I could play at a high level."

Desrosiers went on to earn scholarship offers from a variety of schools in virtually every high major conference in the country.  His commitment earlier today is a huge victory for Gaudio and Wake Forest as they not only landed a highly coveted big man, but also someone whose best basketball is clearly still in front of him.
