The u17 Super Showcase had a unique set-up. In fact, it was really two separate tournaments. Every team in the field was separated into either the gold or silver divisions prior to the beginning of the week. Those two divisions played their own pool play games, bracket play games, crowned separate champions, and no overlapping competition. BABC was New England’s lone representative in the gold division and they played well. They dropped a 71-62 decision to the New York Gauchos…

After handling Minnesota Pump n Run with ease in the semi-finals 55-37, the New England Playaz found a familiar foe waiting for them in the final of the prestigious Adidas Super 64 Tournament. Memphis Magic Elite, who the Playaz had defeated earlier this week in a super pool game, returned for a rematch after turning away the Atlanta Celtics and D.C. One year ago the New England Playaz made a big statement in Las Vegas…this year they’re blowing even that result away. Going into Sunday morning the Playaz had won six straight games, all against teams seeded among the best 32 in the field, and had advanced to the tournament’s final four. They opened the tournament with a 23 point lashing of the Nashville Celtics and then made a statement with a 69-64 win over an incredibly talented Memphis Magic in…

Connecticut Basketball Club and the Boston Amateur Basketball Club both earned a trip to the gold bracket by sweeping all three of their pool play games at the sixteen-and-under Super Showcase. CBC opened with a 78-70 win over the Runnin Rebels and then blew out both Hoop Dreams and the Charlotte Nets. Both the New England Playaz and Mass Rivals were a perfect 2-0 heading into Friday night’s games. That is particularly impressive for the Playaz, considering they were placed in one of the tournament’s “Super Pools”. The 8 Super Pools in the field are designated for what the tournament directors deem as the top 32 teams. Consequently, each of those teams play three highly competitive pool play games and then receive an automatic spot into the gold bracket following the conclusion…

In a time where most exposure events focus on game play, Five Star Basketball Camp is sticking to it's roots, by focusing on teaching the fundamentals of the game. This past week at Springfield College, Five Star made it's Western Massachusetts debut with about 80 campers traveling from Spain, Japan, Arizona, along with New York and New England like you might expect.
