When Jon McAllian arrived in Orlando with his Team Maine AAU squad he was already receiving some division I interest. But after knocking down 7 three-pointers in the first half of Team Maine’s opening game of the tournament that interest quickly expanded. Saturday began with a special surprise for the 40 campers in attendance as they were treated to a guest appearance and subsequent lecture by former Husky and NBA all-star Ray Allen. Allen wasn’t the only famous alumnus in Gampel Pavilion on Saturday as he was joined by Caron Butler shortly after concluding his talk. Sesoo Ikpah, originally from New Jersey, completed his post-graduate year at Lee Academy in Maine this year. 153 teams from across the nation had their eyes on competing for a national championship. The MBR boys basketball team advanced to the sweet 16 bracket at the junior boys/17u AAU National Championship before losing a Virginia based team. MBR then played in the 4th round losers bracket advancing to the 6th place game before falling to Georgia’s Inner Strength 55-51 to capture the 11th place medals. Plans have changed for Jimmy Gunville! After having originally committing to attend the Tilton School as a post-graduate the sharp-shooting guard has instead decided to accept a scholarship offer from Mercy College and their first year head coach Tony Staffiere. Gunville is best known for his shooting prowess from behind the three-point stripe. During the fall AAU season he had back to back games with 10 or more three-pointers. Orion Outerbridge has been a very busy young man during the last two weeks.
