Southern CT Standout Players To Watch
There is no shortage in talent in Connecticut’s Fairfield county this winter. A number of seniors still on the board will look to end their seasons on a high note, while a handful of younger players will continue to excel.
Here are some players to keep an eye out for as the season get’s underway.
Aiden Walker, Newtown HS: As Walker goes into his final season in the CIAC, the Senior is looking to make a big impact for Newtown. The 5’11” guard played a significant role for the Nighthawks last season averaging over 17 PPG and in the process, earning himself a spot on the All-SWC First Team. Walker flourishes from beyond the arc as a lethal three point shooter, using efficient off-ball movement and dribbling to find the net. Paired well with his incredible court vision, Walker will be a serious dual threat on the court going into the winter season.
Jake Huber, New Fairfield HS: As a young promising Junior, 5’11” guard Jake Huber is slated to take on a major role for the Rebels going into the season. Earning his minutes as a Freshman and playing well right off the bat, Huber has a high ceiling for success. Huber’s ball control and ability to drive to the basket is something to keep an eye on. He’s able to break down a defense using his floor spacing and is a major threat inside the paint through his incredible skill to slice through a defense and finish at the rim.
Victor Oloke, Bethel HS: Earning himself a spot on the SWC All-Colonial team this past year, 5’10” guard Victor Oloke is determined to make an impact heading into his final season. His intelligence in the classroom translates to his performance on the court through his high IQ for the game. This allows him to be a dangerous presence offensively and defensively, forcing turnovers from the opposition, being a spot-up shooter from beyond the arc, and consistently being a threat in the paint through his physicality and competitive drive.
Sean Wilson, Trumbull HS: As Sean Wilson goes into his final season in the CIAC, he looks to continue his role as a key contributor for the Eagles. Already with an impressive basketball resume as the 24-25 FCIAC player of the year and establishing himself as a face of the 2025 All-ZGXL first team, Wilson aims to extend his impressive run of form. The 6’1” guard uses his physicality to his advantage by asserting himself on the glass, forcing turnovers, and successfully driving to the rim. As a shooter, Wilson makes shots at a high level, changing games in an instant. His defensive IQ is worth monitoring this winter and makes him really stand out as a player.
Rody Ricketts, Bunnell HS: As we enter the winter season, 6’1” guard Rody Ricketts is highly anticipated to put his abilities on display for the CIAC and is prepared to exceed expectations. The Junior has already been putting in the work, earning his place in the All-SWC First Team last year as well as winning another state championship. His defensive ability is top tier, using his speed and knowledge of the game to recognize his opponents moves in order to force turnovers. This translates into his offense where he uses his quickness to attack the basket and impose his will against his opponents.
Jayden Febus, St. Joseph HS: Febus is looking to close out his final winter season in the CIAC with a defining performance. The 5’9” guard is a stand out player making the FCIAC top performers list last season. Febus’s ability to force turnovers and create fast breaks makes him a lethal scoring option in a transition offense. His speed, court vision, all paired with his incredible three point shooting allows his offense to thrive and makes him a dangerous presence on the court.
Sam Clachko, Staples HS: After delivering Staples its first FCIAC Championship this past season, Clachko is excited to elevate his team this winter. The 5’11” guard has recorded over 1,000 points in his first three years at Staples and only looks to add to his total. He’s a very confident shooter, always able to find open space to go through his motion. He can also anticipate the opponents offense, always finding the right place to rebound and force turnovers to provide fast breaks. When you need reliability on offense or defense, Clachko is always poised, versatile, and someone to keep an eye on as the season gets rolling.
Kollen Kyle, Weston HS: Kyle is prepared and ready to take on the upcoming winter season in the CIAC. As a 6’5” wing, he possesses the ability to really come up in the clutch through his incredible shooting ability. As a big wing his efficiency from deep helps an offense thrive and creates matchup problems from the defense. His body control, off ball movement, and shooting form creates scoring opportunities and allows him to be super confident turning him into a reliable shooter. Definitely a player to keep on your watchlist as the season ramps up.
Henry Chandra, New Canaan HS: Chandra is looking to make his mark in his final season in the CIAC this winter. The 6'4" forward had some good moments last year, contributing as a top-scoring option for New Canaan. Chandra thrives as a tough shotmaker, getting to his spots off the bounce in minimal dribbles. His body control and footwork on drives lead to a lot of baskets on drives as well, making him a player to keep on the radar as the winter gets underway.
