Transfer Profile: Alex Pace
On July 21st, Brewster Academy announced that they would be bringing in Alex Pace. A postgraduate point guard who played his high school basketball at Norcross HS in Georgia before transferring to Camden HS in New Jersey.
Alex put together a very impressive senior season alone this past year between his time at Camden and on the AAU circuit. At Camden this past season, he would reach the 1,000-point mark for his high school career. Notably bringing Camden to the NJ State Championship this past season, though falling short, Pace put up a 51-point game during their playoff run. He would earn an All-South Jersey First Team nod for his amazing output during his senior season.
Pace played his AAU basketball for WeR1 on the UAA circuit, where this summer he would go to another level. Pace would average 18.6 points over 18 games played, while helping to lead WeR1 to a 17U UAA National Championship victory. Pace exploded for 36 points in the first July live period to go along with 10 rebounds and five assists in the game.
The 6‘2” guard picked up a few offers over the past few months at the DI level from Boston University, Le Moyne, Wagner, Tennessee Tech, and most recently, Yale.
Alex Pace can flat out score the ball, and do it with very solid efficiency. It is easy to see the numbers and think he is just a good shooter, but until you watch his game and see the shot creation and difficulty, even his great numbers don’t tell the true story. At 6‘2”, Pace can score at will from anywhere on the court. Whether it is from NBA range behind the 3, attacking downhill, and all of the in-between. These buckets happen in a multitude of ways, which makes him such a tough guard for the opposition. Alex shows he can most certainly go off the dribble and go get one himself, but he also possesses the ability to do so off the catch, or off of a cut. It adds versatility to his already diverse skill set scoring the basketball.
Pace is able to create massive amounts of space as he is a very creative player, he is able to manufacture scoring opportunities in different ways as noted before. Whether it is off a bump and getting to a fadeaway, or a turnaround. But truly showcasing a creative aspect to his game in his ball handling. Dribbling is just one piece of this, where he is very comfortable using an array of moves. Alex uses different variations of stepbacks, spins, and pick up heights which over a full game is hard for a defender to expect what is coming next while he has the ball.
You’ll find with Alex that his speed is incredible on and off the ball. A lightning-fast point guard who can get up the floor in a second, creating endless transition opportunities for himself and his teammates. His speed allows for a very quick first step, making his already great ability to get downhill even easier. This speed also allows him to change pace very efficiently when off a hesitation or slower motion to pick up in an instant and get past the defender.
It should be noted that Pace exudes a high level of confidence and always seems calm in the way he plays. At the rate he moves and with his scoring prowess, he never seems rushed by the defense, remaining fully in control, wherever he is on the court
He joins a Brewster program under new Head Coach Luke Rosinski and will make an immediate impact for them. The 6‘2” guard has exploded onto the scene this year and is certainly a name to become familiar with this upcoming season.
