Lee Academy senior forward Rudolfs Stradnieks made a verbal commitment to Southern Illinois last week. The six-foot-nine power forward became a priority mid-major recruit during the course of the season scoring offers from Drexel, Miami (OH), Evansville, Wright State and Niagara among others. This past weekend, the BABC held the annual George “Trigger” Burke Tipoff tournament in Boston. The BABC FR. Gold team finished the weekend 3-0 with victories over the Boston Warriors (67-33), GT Elite (54-42), and a pesky Maine MAC team (66-58). Fairfield scored just the 11th hour recruiting victory they were looking for on Sunday when Wilbraham & Monson Academy guard Curtis Cobb committed to the Stags. The CIAC crowned four state champions this past weekend at Mohegan Sun. Ironically, the team most consider to be number one overall in the state competed in the smallest division and so it was no surprise to see Sacred Heart run away with the Class S championship 71-46.
