Larry Anderson is off the board…and the final destination is a bit of a surprise. The 6’5” forward who had received a good deal of interest from schools in the Atlantic 10 (and some even higher) throughout the year signed with Long Beach State. His commitment is a huge acquisition for the 49ers as they steal the highest ranked player left in New England as well as someone who was considered by many to be a mid to high major…

The finals of the Charlie Weber D.C. Hoopfest featured New Heights against D.C. Assault. But before reaching the championship game, both clubs got all they could handle from two New England teams. For New Heights, it was Connecticut Select who they faced in the semi-finals of the championship round. Select proved to be one of the best offensive teams in the field as they even went for as many as 108 points in a single game. Marcus James, Josh Turner,…

Zach Dugas is headed to St. Anselm’s next year. The 6’2” point guard, who was receiving a good deal of division I interest, decided to pull the trigger and commit to the Hawks after playing with the Connecticut Basketball Club this weekend in Pittsburgh. “I just think this is the best fit for me,” Dugas said when asked why he chose to commit instead of waiting on division I offers. “I’m real happy to be going to St. Anselm’s.” St.…

Size is always at a premium for college coaches, but inevitably it becomes even more so this time of year. While there are still a good number of quality guards left on the board, bigs become harder and harder to find as the season goes on. Here is a look at some who might be scooped up by the time the weekend is over: Larry Anderson, 6’5”, F, Winchendon: He’s more of a wing than a big man, but minus…

Today marks the first of four days in the spring evaluation period that division I college coaches are permitted to evaluate potential student athletes away from their high school’s campus. In other words, the next two weekends are the only time this spring that division I coaches are allowed to watch AAU teams compete in sanctioned events. Most local programs have traveled to either Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the Jam Fest or Washington, D.C. for Charlie Weber’s Hoop Fest. At both…

Now that the high school and prep school season has come and gone it is once again time to release our updated set of rankings. We begin with the class of 2008 for the final time. Devin Ebanks ends his career as the number one ranked player in New England. While John Riek’s departure to IMG Academy certainly made this an easier decision, Ebanks would have taken the top spot regardless. The St. Thomas More star had a spectacular year…

The Albert Schweitzer Tournament is essentially the unofficial 18 and under world championship. 16 different countries are represented in the field including all of the European powerhouses. The tournament is organized by both the German Federation and the United States Army, with most of the action taking place inside the U.S.’s Mannheim military base. New England’s Erik Murphy was one of the 12 players selected to represent the United States, joining the likes of Travis Releford (committed to Kansas), Cashmere…

With the April “live” period just around the corner, that means there is about to be a rush of commitments as unsigned seniors will all need to find a home. With that in mind, we thought today was a good time to update our readers on some commitments that have recently taken place. • Lambros Papalambros and Kris Noonan to Babson – The Archbishop Williams graduate and Suffield Academy post-graduate made up his mind and chose Babson. The Beavers were…
