Local Guard A-10 Bound

Thursday morning Mike Moore arrived at Hillhouse High School as he does on every other school day.  But this day was different as he had a press conference scheduled later that afternoon to announce his college selection.  By then it was common knowledge that the 6’5 guard had narrowed his options down to Fordham and Drexel, although no one seemed to know which school he would choose.  In fact, only a few short hours before the press conference was set… READ MORE >

Toledo has landed a new backcourt and they came to New England to do it.  A few days ago we told you that Toledo had landed a commitment from 6’0 point guard Paul Becklens from Dorchester, Massachusetts and Bridgton Academy.  What we didn’t know at the time was that Becklens was only one half of the package, as the Rockets had also received a commitment from 6’2 shooting guard Corey Bingham.  Bingham, the Springfield native who starred for the New… READ MORE >

Paul Becklens a 6’0 post-graduate point guard from Bridgton Academy is headed to Toledo next year while a little farther north another point guard in Tremayne Russell is headed back home to Florida where he will attend FIU.  Becklens is an extremely tough point guard who does all the little things to make a team better.  He hustles, defends, gets loose balls, makes extra passes, and knocks down open shots.  In fact, Becklens was a huge factor as a spark… READ MORE >

Is he big enough?  Is he a point guard?  These are the questions Joe Accaoui has heard whispered over the last few years.  But after a solid summer with the New England Playaz and a tremendous season at St. Andrew’s, Accaoui has silenced his doubters and racked up quite a few scholarship offers in the process.  After it was all said and done offers had rolled in from Longwood, St. Francis (NY), St. Peter’s, Cornell, Maine, Stony Brook, and Vermont. … READ MORE >

In showcase type settings it is typically hard for big men to find their groove as guard’s are putting the ball on the floor and looking for their own shot all too often.  Nevertheless, Friday night at Stonehill College big man Orion Outerbridge found ways to stand out.  Outerbridge, who is generating recruiting interest from schools at the high-major and mid-major levels, did what he does best; run the floor, finish explosively at the rim, block shots, and rebound the… READ MORE >

Coming into his senior season Gary Correia had a good deal of interest from schools in the Atlantic 10 and the CAA among others.  But when several of the schools pursuing him got commitments from other points guard Correia was forced to play out his senior season without a scholarship.  As luck would have it the Rhode Island native had a terrific season leading Northfield Mount Hermon to one of their best seasons in recent memory.  Correia, who was the… READ MORE >

On Sunday night the Rhode Island Breakers AAU Club organized their annual spring showcase giving local players an opportunity to perform in front of several college coaches in attendance. While there were a variety of unsigned senior prospects in attendance the two biggest talents might have been players who won’t reach the college level for a few years. Nick Manning (pictured above), a 6’1 guard who just completed his freshmen season at Bishop Hendricken and Louis Montes a 6’4 sophomore… READ MORE >

Boston College HS Wins Mass. Division I

Boston College HS Wins Mass. Division I

Boston College High School has a very talented and deep roster. 6’8 junior forward Jake O'Brien has a definite future at the division one level, as too will 6’5 junior shooting guard Tim McKinney (despite missing the championship game with an injury) and potentially 6’7 senior forward Andrew Yanulis after spending a post-graduate year at Northfield Mount Hermon. But with less then 8 minutes remaining in the finals of the state championship game when BC HS found themselves down by… READ MORE >

Hillhouse Repeats in CT Division I

Posted Friday, March 16th, 2007

For the second consecutive season Hillhouse and East Catholic met in Connecticut’s Division I state championship game.  But from the onset this game had a very different feel from a year ago.  Last season Hillhouse jumped out to an almost immediate 20 point lead and dominated East Catholic throughout the entire game.  This year no team would score 20 points until the second half as East Catholic did a nice job of controlling the tempo during the first 16 minutes… READ MORE >
