Under the Radar NEPSAC Guards
The NEPSAC season's coming to a close in the next month, but there has been no shortage in talented guards making a name for themselves over the course of the season.
Here are some under-the-radar names to know as February gets rolling.
Bryce Bennett ’26, Choate Rosemary Hall: A postgraduate guard whose presence has helped stabilize Choate’s backcourt. Crafty lefty with legitimate scoring ability and deep shooting range. Plays off a strong base and is excellent finishing off two feet. A super-tight handle allows him to get downhill and finish creatively around the rim. Advanced passing vision and feel. Actively searching for a college home while aiming to help spark a late season Class A playoff push.
Walker Allen ’26, Hotchkiss: An undersized postgraduate guard who doesn't let size define his impact. Plays with nonstop energy and toughness. A pesky on ball defender who disrupts opponents all game, consistently piling up steals and turns into transition offense. Excellent pace and change of speed attacking the basket combined with crafty touch at the rim. High level shooter with a quick release and extended range that compensates for size. A winning type guard every coach wants in their program.
Devan Williams ’26, Milton Academy:The top scoring guard for one of the strongest teams in Class A. An elite student as well, carrying a 4.0 GPA and recently surpassing an impressive 2,000 career high school points. Lightning quick with elite handles that consistently break down defenses. Creates quality looks for both himself and teammates. Athleticism allows him to finish above the rim. Still flying under the radar despite production, high-academic programs should be all over him.
Zion Williams ’26, Phillips Academy Andover: A postgraduate guard helping lead Andover to the top of Class A. High IQ player who consistently elevates his team. Creative finisher around the rim on both sides of the basket. Deadly crossover and explosive first step make him tough to contain. Efficient shooter at a high percentage and a threat both off the catch and the bounce. Advanced passer who fits balls through tight windows and plays with excellent feel for the game. One to watch closely as the season progresses.
CJ Farrell ’27, St. Mark’s School: A young breakout guard leading St. Mark’s to one of the best records in Class B. An elite athlete whose quickness and vertical pop show up on both ends. Strong pull up game with a preference for the midrange, while also extending well beyond the arc. Effective operating out of ball screens. Unselfish by nature, consistently finding bigs and shooters when collapsing the defense. College interest is coming quickly.
Omari Levy ’26, The Masters School (NY): A versatile two-way scorer with excellent size, length, and athleticism. Capable of playing multiple positions and doing a bit of everything for Masters. Takes pride in his defense, averaging around three steals per game while locking down opposing guards. Strong rebounding guard who grabs it and goes in transition. Explosive finisher with highlight athleticism. Confident deep shooter, especially dangerous off hesitations and pull ups, with the length to finish through contact.
Markus Maxwell-Grimes ’26, Suffield Academy: The skilled guard does everything for Suffield. A three level scorer who continues to expand his game each season. High level shooter both off the catch and off the dribble, especially effective coming off screens or pulling up out of his downhill attacks. Relentless rim pressure with strong athletic finishing either way. Brings high energy defensively and takes on opposing teams’ top scorers each game. One of the most underrated guards in the NEPSAC.
Josiah Hyman ’26, Albany Academy: A key piece in Albany Academy’s move into Class AA, helping the program reach the top 10 in its first season at the level. A complete guard who plays the game the right way. Excellent shooter who thrives attacking closeouts and doesn’t shy away from contests. Reliable pull up threat and consistent catch and shoot option from anywhere around the arc. Strong on ball defender with great anticipation in passing lanes. Moves the ball, makes the extra pass, and impacts winning.
CJ Azor ‘26, Northfield Mount Hermon: An elite perimeter defender with outstanding instincts and hands. Constantly closes out hard and uses length to disrupt or block shots. A coach’s dream on the defensive end. Offensively, shows soft touch in the short midrange, mixing floaters and pull ups to keep defenders guessing. Knockdown three point shooter with textbook mechanics and deep range. A high impact guard whose value is shown on both ends.
