7 HoopHall Prep Standouts

Springfield was the place to be last weekend as a number of nationally ranked players and teams made their way across different venues and tournaments to showcase high level basketball in front of scouts and fans.

At American International College, the HoopHall Prep Showcase had many exciting games as well as notable performances that contributed to a great weekend of hoops.

There were too many standout performances and games to write about all of them in one article, but here are 7 unsigned seniors that coaches need to get on their radar before it is too late.

Sam Falko: West Nottingham

Falko is off to a hot start in his second year playing for West Nottingham and coaches and scouts are starting to notice. He currently holds an offer from Binghamton and this is his only chance so far to play at the next level. His contributions to his team over the past two years have been incredible and Falko is a pure three level scorer. He plays with a relentless motor on the defensive end, causing many turnovers and would then turn it into offense on the other end. He can knock down the three ball at a high clip and gets downhill and finishes through bigger defenders. In a good team win against St. Andrew’s on Sunday night, Falko finished with 22 points shooting 10/15 from the field and coming away with 2 steals.  In a close loss to Canada Top Flight the day before, Falko had 13 points, 9 boards, and 5 assists and played with heart and energy down the stretch to try and will his team to a win. After recently eclipsing the 1,000 point total at West Nottingham, (after also achieving this milestone at his first school), Falko is ready to make an impact anyway he can on a college roster next year.

Windston Legentus: Brimmer & May

Throughout his high school career, Legentus has been a name to know both in Prep School as well as on the grassroots scene with the Middlesex Magic. He is a quick twitch combo guard that can facilitate his teams offense while also being able to play off the ball and make smart cuts and take confident shots that he knocks down consistently. Him and his backcourt duo of Ladanion Payne create problems for any team they play against and they complement each other's games nicely. This past weekend he finished with 10 points and 4 rebounds against Winston Salem PG in his first game before turning it up for the second game against a good St. Andrews team. In this early morning matchup he finished with 25 points, going 6/7 from beyond the arc and 7/11 from the field. He took smart shots and he shot the ball with a ton of confidence. He also added 4 assists and 4 rebounds in a big time win for his team. He currently holds offers from FGCU, BU, Stonehill, UAlbany, Bryant, and Merrimack and I expect that list to grow as this season continues.

Elijah Crispin: Perkiomen

Crispin was on fire from beyond the arc to help propel his team to a dominant win over Wilbraham & Monson. He shot 50% from three and poured in 28 points as well as 5 assists for his squad. He has a fluid ball handling ability and can shoot both off the catch and the dribble at a high rate. Defensively he plays with a ton of energy and looks to jump passing lanes for easy transition layups on the other end. In his first year at Perkiomen he has continued the success he found as a 2,000 point scorer at his hometown high school. His game has elevated since playing against tougher competition and it has solidified his position as a collegiate basketball player. The IQ that he has helps bring his game to the next level with his defensive rotations as well as moving on the offensive end without the ball in his hand. In the classroom he also has excelled having a 4.0 GPA which makes him a good look for high academic D1/D2 schools that need a hardworking shooter.

Trent Alston-Egbiremolen: IMG PG

Jim Carr has always produced a strong Post Grad team out of the prestigious IMG Academy and this year is no different. One key contributor to their success so far this season is 6’5” guard Trent Alston-Egbiremolen. He was one of the most athletic players in the gym this weekend and finished the first half of his game against Darrow with a monster posterizing dunk that helped set the tone for the entire weekend. On both ends of the floor he makes high flying plays around the rim that help set him apart from other combo guards with his size. He has a knockdown jumpshot that makes him a threat anywhere on the offensive side of the floor. He finished with 22 points and 9 boards while also blocking 2 shots in his only game this weekend. His team is off to a hot start about halfway through the season earning them the 4th spot in our latest national power rankings as well as an upset win over Putnam Science in their home state of Florida. He currently holds offers from Seton Hall, Towson, Temple, and Iona and I expect this list to expand by the end of the season.

Elijah Avery-Turner: MacDuffie

Macduffie has been off to a strong start to the season and Elijah Avery-Turner has been an integral part to their success. I first got to see him in their pre-season open gym and his shooting ability was on display but since the season has started his leadership has blossomed into a staple of his game. He gets to spots on the floor that allow the playmaking guard Keyshon Joyner to use his skills and find him for open threes that he can knock down at a high clip. He can also use his dribbling ability to create lanes downhill and finish around the rim. He finished with 18 points in a loss while also contributing 2 steals on the defensive end. He eclipsed the 1,000 point total while at MacDuffie and he currently holds an offer from Air Force. As the season continues his game will only continue to grow and get better and his chances to play at the next level will start to show more and more.

Colton Crowdis: Bridgton Academy

The Canadian native has made huge strides in his game since stepping foot on Bridgton's campus this past summer. During the first NEPSAC live period in the summer, Crowdis was impressive and began to build a name for himself in the states. He has been the lead guard for his squad all year and has a smooth ball handle as well as the ability to hit high level shots from beyond the arc. In a close game against OSL Prep this past weekend, he finished with 21 points and on 52% shooting from the field. At the end of the game when his team needed plays to be made, they trusted Crowdis to set the team up and execute the offense. In their first game of the weekend Crowdis had 16 points, 6 boards and 5 assists in a 40 point win for the Wolverines. He has a knack for scoring the ball and he has intangible skills that should help him at the next level. As the season continues expect his recruitment to pick up and for him to make an impact on a college roster next season.

Jhett Carter: Hargrave Military Academy

For the past two seasons I have got to watch Carter in our prep school tournaments and I was always impressed with his maturity and growth on the court each time I watched him play. In his first game of the weekend he finished with 28 points drawing 12 fouls and going 16/18 from the line. He also contributed 6 boards and went 6/11 from the field to will his team to a close victory. He is 6’5” and has a ton of length with his wingspan and uses it to help him make tough finishes around the rim. Defensively he does very well keeping his opponents in front of him and not allowing easy drives to the basket. In their second game he was not as prominent in the box score but the plays he made all contributed to helping them close out another close win. He knows his role within the system and does a nice job doing the best he can at it. He holds offers from East Carolina, Ohio, Hampton, Northeastern, UAlbany, UMass Lowell, and Holy Cross and I believe he will have an immediate impact at the Division 1 level.
