Gillenwater Coming Home

Two weeks ago when we were in Massachusetts for the Team Boston Elite Invitational the whispers had already begun that Troy Gillenwater was coming back home.  Last weekend when the talented forward was suited up with the New England Playaz at the Rumble in the Bronx it appeared as if the rumors were true.  And yesterday it became official as Troy Gillenwater told scout.com’s Jeff Goodman he came home to stay this summer.  The 6’7 forward who had left his home two years ago to play at Stoneridge Prep in California is now said to be hoping to enroll at Notre Dame Prep this fall.

While on the west coast Gillenwater was consistently ranked among the top 75 players in the country by almost every major scouting service.  Despite taking very few visits Gillenwater committed to Oklahoma State last season in the midst of his junior year.  Now he says he hopes to make the most of his five official visits, while hoping to attract more attention from high major programs on the east coast.

That shouldn’t be a problem as Gillenwater is one of the most dominant low post scorers in the country, despite being somewhat undersized under the rim.  With a super soft touch he is deadly when facing the basket and can even extend his range to the three-point line.  If that weren’t enough he is now sporting a slimmed down physique that should make him even harder to defend.

In fact when we release our new rankings, Gillenwater should find himself right at the top of the class of 2008 along with his potential teammate next season in Nate Miles.  Now the question becomes will Miles return to Notre Dame Prep to form what could be the best 1-2 punch in all of high school or prep school basketball.

Gillenwater will continue to play with the New England Playaz throughout the summer as they travel to the Adidas It Takes Five Tournament, the Hall of Fame National Invitational, and the Adidas Super 64 Tournament.  Gillenwater has also confirmed that he will participate in the 2007 New England Elite 75 Showcase to be held on August 15th at Boston University.
