In August when Pat Bergmann shined at the New England Elite 75 Showcase he was a player flying under the radar. After that performance his reputation began to grow and he eventually committed to Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. With the Bobcats making a coaching change this off-season and Bergmann having just turned in a dominating performance during the Vermont High School season, he had an opportunity to re-evaluate his options. As it turns out it didn’t take long for the…

With 240 teams in action, including over 80 alone in the u17 division, and games spread across gyms in the greater Providence area, the biggest challenge was trying to see everybody this weekend. While that turned out to be impossible we did see quite a few impressive performances while going back and forth from the two Rhode Island College sites on Saturday. New England Playaz u16The Playaz 16 and under squad was the most dominant team we saw on Saturday,…

New Hampshire added two more local players to their recruiting class in 6’1 combo guard Alvin Abreu who is currently doing a post-graduate year at Boys to Men Academy in Chicago, and 6’8 power forward Dane DiLegro who is doing the same at Worcester Academy. For Abreu, his commitment to UNH marks the conclusion of a very long journey to reach the division I level. Greg Hill has been one of the hottest names in New England for a few months now. The long distance marksman has quickly developed the reputation as one of the best shooters not only in this region, but in the entire country. The 6’2 shooting guard played extremely well down the stretch this season for his Bridgton Academy team helping them to their third consecutive NEPSAC Class “A” Title. Before arriving at Bridgton, Hill starred on the SYF Players AAU…

HAMPTON, Va. - BABC is used to winning games. That's not just a historical note, although that is the case over its entire existence. But this current group has done plenty of winning in the last year, and that continued this weekend at the Boo Williams Invitational in Virginia. Although they were short-handed and essentially played five players (and pressed for a good deal of the game), BABC held off the New Jersey-based Playaz Basketball Club in the 16-under final…

Teams at Charlie Weber’s Penn State tournament learned a valuable lesson this weekend…don’t overlook a team just because they are from a small state. The Rhode Island Hawks were the dominant program of the tournament as their 17 and under team won the championship in their age bracket while the 16 and under team advanced to the finals before falling to Team New Jersey Elite. Although 17u Head Coach and Program Director Jason Elliott gave credit to his entire roster…

Thursday morning Mike Moore arrived at Hillhouse High School as he does on every other school day. But this day was different as he had a press conference scheduled later that afternoon to announce his college selection. By then it was common knowledge that the 6’5 guard had narrowed his options down to Fordham and Drexel, although no one seemed to know which school he would choose. In fact, only a few short hours before the press conference was set…

Game of the Weekend – CBC vs. Connecticut Select 17uOn Saturday afternoon CBC took on a young but talented Connecticut Select squad. While there were a variety of impressive performances on both sides Tyrone Gardner and David Gibbs were able to elevate their level of play and put on quite a show for the fans in attendance. Gardner scored the game’s first six points as he converted with a runner on the first possession, pulled-up from behind the three-point line…

Toledo has landed a new backcourt and they came to New England to do it. A few days ago we told you that Toledo had landed a commitment from 6’0 point guard Paul Becklens from Dorchester, Massachusetts and Bridgton Academy. What we didn’t know at the time was that Becklens was only one half of the package, as the Rockets had also received a commitment from 6’2 shooting guard Corey Bingham. Bingham, the Springfield native who starred for the New…

Paul Becklens a 6’0 post-graduate point guard from Bridgton Academy is headed to Toledo next year while a little farther north another point guard in Tremayne Russell is headed back home to Florida where he will attend FIU. Becklens is an extremely tough point guard who does all the little things to make a team better. He hustles, defends, gets loose balls, makes extra passes, and knocks down open shots. In fact, Becklens was a huge factor as a spark…
