St. Anselm’s just got a steal. Roy Mabrey, a six-foot-one post-graduate guard from St. Thomas More, committed to the local NE-10 school on Friday. “They started recruiting me in September during open gym and I wasn’t thinking much about it because I came here to go division I,” Mabrey said, “but they kept persistently calling and talking about the role that I would fill up there.”Finally last week, Mabrey visited the New Hampshire campus and his reaction surprised even himself. …

Brewster Academy didn’t let the sting of their first loss of the season hold them down for long as they rallied from Tuesday’s loss to St. Thomas More to claim their second consecutive New Hampton Invitational title on Saturday, defeating the host Huskies in the final and improving to 26-1 on the year. While first year Boston College head coach Steve Donahue has exceeded expectations in the ACC in his debut season in Chestnut Hill, he continues to build for the future on the recruiting trail, landing his sixth commitment in the class of 2011 this weekend. Coming out of Hamden High School in Connecticut last year, Ryen Vilmont hoped that a post-graduate year would provide him with more exposure to college coaches and hopefully lead to a scholarship.
