NATICK, Mass. - When Andrew Mirken lined up all the kids to put teams together for the afternoon portion of the Boston Best 40 on Saturday, he suddenly realized something: he had a few more kids than he expected. The count: 91 kids. It’s hard to believe that just a couple of short weeks earlier, the coach at the Rivers School, site of the event, was hoping to find more kids, as if even getting 40 was going to be…

UMass Dartmouth Completes Class 08-09 was a bit of a dream season for UMass Dartmouth. It is pretty safe to say that there won’t be another time this year when as many college coaches will be in the same gym at the same time in the state of Vermont. Even Joe OShea, who has already trimmed his recruiting list…

Brewster Academy’s rising senior forward Melvin Ejim ended his recruitment and committed to Iowa State on Sunday. “The fan support and coaching staff was really important,” Ejim told the Cyclone Sports Report. “The players were great during my visits and they just really welcomed me into the team. I felt like I just fit in perfectly and Iowa State was clearly the right fit.” Also important was Ejim’s relationship with current Cyclone big man Craig Brackins, who starred for Brewster…

Last week we announced our updated rankings in the classes of 2010, 2011, and 2012. In that time we’ve also received a good number of inquiries about when we will release the first set of 2013 rankings. Readers will have to wait a little bit longer for those, as we’re going to use the next couple of months to learn as much as we can about the incoming freshmen class. Because of the new NERR Junior Elite Division, which covers…

The Basketball Spotlight held their annual All-Star Classic last weekend in New Jersey, featuring 24 of the top rising 9th graders in the northeast. Boston’s Ramone Gibbons was the only player from New England selected to participate and Gibbons showed his best stuff, earning MVP honors for the North squad. Gibbons scored a team high 15 points primarily by using his strong body to get inside the lane and finish at the rim. “Gibbons took the ride down I95 and…

With the July live period having come and gone and college coaches having set their sites on their first round of targets, August is a big month for unofficial visits.
