Some MIAA Seniors To Know This Winter

The start of the high school basketball season in Massachusetts is underway! A ton of big names will suit up for their final seasons with their respective public schools, looking to steer their team towards a state championship. Here are some players to keep an eye out for throughout the winter.

Kingston Maxwell, Abington HS: Maxwell is a two-sport athlete and one of the MIAA’s top juniors after a strong spring/summer with Middlesex Magic on the HGSL circuit. The 6’4 wing brings versatile scoring ability, attacking the rim with power while knocking down shots and utilizing a polished turnaround jumper. He’s a fluid athlete who can get out and run, finish through contact, and protect the rim defensively. Averaging 22.5 points and 7 rebounds per game last year, Maxwell continues to emerge as a three-level scorer and a large presence for Abington.

Desmond Flumo, Acton-Boxborough: Flumo is a senior guard coming off a standout season in which he earned DCL All-Star honors, Team MVP, and an All-Tournament Team selection. The 6’1 playmaker combines his tight handle with a quick first step, allowing him to create looks off the dribble and get downhill with pace. He’s a crafty finisher who sees the floor well and consistently makes the right read. After a strong showing with NE Storm in the grassroots season, Flumo continues to elevate his play in the backcourt.

Jacob Klass, Beverly HS: Klass is a 2026 southpaw guard who has built momentum with White Mamba in the MHC and continues to emerge as a reliable scoring threat. At 5’11, he’s a high-level shooter with a quick, strong release, able to knock down shots off the dribble or while running off screens. He uses ball screens well, has a steady handle, and finds ways to create space for clean looks. Klass also attacks the rim with purpose, finishing through contact and putting pressure on defenses.

Javier Lopez, Central Catholic HS: Lopez is a proven Class of 2026 scorer who passed the 1,000 career points as a junior, averaging 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists, while earning MVC Division I Player of the Year honors and leading Central Catholic to the state semifinals. Showing great leadership during his two seasons captaining the Raiders and playing with Mass Rivals on the 3SSB circuit. Offensively, he gets to his spots with ease, rising above defenders for clean looks and showcasing a smooth one-dribble pull-up in the midrange. A high honor roll student who has visited several NE college programs, Lopez continues to solidify himself as one of the region’s top seniors.

Allen Miranda, Springfield Central HS: Miranda is a 6’0 Class of 2026 guard who brings athleticism and energy to both ends of the floor. He uses his explosiveness to get downhill, finishing creatively around the rim and apply pressure to defenses. With a strong change of pace and a developing pull-up game, he’s able to keep defenders off balance and generate quality looks. A 3.5 GPA student, Miranda continues to emerge as a well-rounded backcourt piece for Springfield Central.

Aden Cabrera, Springfield Central HS: Cabrera is a 5’8 Class of 2026 guard who transferred from Holyoke for his final year of eligibility and aims to help lead Springfield Central to a strong season. He brings a relentless defensive motor, using active hands to generate steals and turn defense into transition offense. Offensively, he’s quick with a strong handle, changes pace well, and scores with a smooth base and range beyond the arc. Cabrera also sees the floor well when attacking downhill, giving him a mix as a creator and disruptor.

Aboubakar Nimaka, Malden Catholic: Nimaka is a 6’4 Class of 2026 forward and two-time state champion who continues to elevate his game while competing with Mass Rivals. He impacts games with his mix of length and athleticism, attacking the offensive glass and finishing from all angles around the rim. In the post, he shows solid footwork and touch, giving him reliable scoring options inside. Defensively, Nimaka’s physicality and shot-blocking presence anchor the paint and make him a very impactful interior defender.

Thomas Behrmann, Medfield HS: Behrmann is a 6’0 Class of 2026 guard who continues to grow his impact on both ends of the floor. He’s a true three-level scorer with a strong handle, capable of creating separation and knocking down threes off the dribble. His activity on defense leads to frequent steals, helping Medfield generate transition opportunities. Behrmann also shows good vision as a creator, consistently scoring while also setting up his teammates.

Ben Cormier, Newburyport HS: Cormier is a 6’8 forward who brings size and floor spacing ability. He shoots it cleanly with a high, consistent release, making him a reliable catch-and-shoot threat from beyond the arc. His ability to stretch defenses creates space for teammates and adds to that with strong effort on the glass, crashing hard on both ends. Holding a 3.4 GPA, Cormier continues to develop as a modern frontcourt piece.

Dominic Taylor, Somerset-Berkley: Taylor is a 6’0 guard and a high academic standout with a 4.4 GPA who helped lead Somerset-Berkley to their first state title in 70 years this past season. Defensively, he’s disciplined and disruptive, using active hands, positioning, and anticipation to jump passing lanes. On offense, he shoots it with confidence from well beyond the arc, showing a solid base and quick release. Taylor’s footwork and balance allow him to finish efficiently off two feet, using his body to absorb contact and convert at the rim.
