Gibbons Takes MVP at Basketball Spotlight Classic
The Basketball Spotlight held their annual All-Star Classic last weekend in New Jersey, featuring 24 of the top rising 9th graders in the northeast.
Boston’s Ramone Gibbons was the only player from New England selected to participate and Gibbons showed his best stuff, earning MVP honors for the North squad.
Gibbons scored a team high 15 points primarily by using his strong body to get inside the lane and finish at the rim.
“Gibbons took the ride down I95 and represented,” Basketball Spotlight wrote on their website. “He added a few pounds of muscle and used it to his advantage. He maneuvered in the lane and dropped a few floaters over shot blockers. This was an All Star Classic but Gibbons went hard like it was a championship game.”
Basketball Spotlight also named Gibbons the “Best Scorer” in the fourteen-and-under class.
“‘The Boston Strangler’ knows how to get buckets and does so on a regular basis,” they wrote. “His stocky frame and scoring touch helps him find the bottom of the net frequently. The Boston area will have a good one for years to come.”
Gibbons was one of the standout performers at last spring's New England Junior Elite 75 Showcase and is set to begin his freshmen year at Charlestown High School.
Gibbons has also been invited to the upcoming New England Elite 75 Showcase - Frosh/Soph Edition.
