Southern New Hampshire just got a steal. The Penmen received a National Letter of Intent from 6’5” guard Hanell Velez, one of the best players in Northern Massachusetts. Velez committed to SNHU after receiving division I interest from a variety of other schools. We would expect Velez to make an immediate contribution upon arriving in New Hampshire. With his size and SNHU’s style of play, Velez will be versatile enough to see action at any of four different positions. But…

When Brent Abendroth made the decision to do a post-graduate year it was with one goal in mind…to become a division I basketball player. He certainly didn’t need any more academic preparation as he was already a candidate for Ivy League and similar level schools. But he hoped his decision to play for head coach Chris Sparks at Wilbraham & Monson would help to catapult his recruitment to division I status. It couldn’t have gone any better. When the New…

Early in the week it was being reported on numerous recruiting sites that Daryl McCoy had committed to Drexel University. That information was, at the time, pre-mature as McCoy didn’t officially make his decision until Thursday afternoon. The Hartford native becomes the second New England big man to land in Bruiser Flint’s recruiting class, joining Dartaye Ruffin from Massachusetts. In McCoy’s case, Flint is landing a center with a potential huge upside. Potential has always been the key word for…

Money was often tight growing up, as his mother worked…

When a player makes a verbal commitment he is essentially giving his word, but when he signs his National Letter of Intent, he is basically signing a legal document. The former isn’t too hard to get out of, the latter very difficult. Consequently, Wednesday is a very big day for schools and recruits across the country. It is the first day of the fall signing period that will last for ten days and the first opportunity for players in the…

Peter McMillan is headed to Cornell. The California native committed on Monday, less than 24 hours after returning from an official visit to the defending Ivy League champions. “I couldn’t be happier with my decision to go to Cornell,” he said. “My visit couldn’t have gone better. Everything about it was a great fit. When I was watching their practice, I could definitely see myself thriving in their system.” NMH head coach John Carroll was quick to echo his forward’s…

The drive to Proctor Academy is a long trip to the north. If you take route 91 through Vermont you may even think you’re headed to Canada. And while Proctor Academy isn’t quite that far north, there is a distinctive Canadian feel to this team. Stephen Alli, Taevaunn Prince, R.J. Stephens, and Pat Donnelly are four newcomers who all come to Proctor by way of Canada. The foursome joins local post-graduate Mike Stys and a young sophomore in Ian Baker…
