We already know about Alex Murphy and Domonique Bull. They were the top two prospects in the class of 2011 before deciding to reclassify (St. Mark’s and Cushing Academy respectively) to 2012. Now the gap between them and the rest of their new class is extremely wide based on everything we have seen to date. With four years left to their high school careers it may be too early to start projecting their level of play in college, but let’s…

While there hasn’t been enough basketball to re-shuffle too many of the 2011 rankings in the last month, recent reclassifications have reshaped the list a bit. Naadir Tharpe’s reclassification at Brewster Academy, along with Alex Murphy’s decision to repeat his freshman year at St. Mark’s, gives Tharpe top billing in this class. With three more years of prep school basketball still to come in his career, Tharpe is sure to be the recruiting target of a variety of high-major programs. …

While we have already told you that the trio of Nate Lubick, Jason Morris, and Gerard Coleman were tops in the region, what we didn’t tell you is that Carson Desrosiers appears to be the next unquestioned high-major talent. After the New Hampshire native exploded onto the scene this July he now features a wealth of scholarship offers, with notables coming from Providence, Syracuse, and Pittsburgh of the Big East. Desrosiers Mass Rivals’ teammate, Evan Smotrycz, recently reclassified to the…

Picking the top prospect in each class is always a difficult decision. Often times there are several candidates who are all undoubted high-major players. Making it more complicated is when these players play different positions, have different roles on their respective teams, and have rarely competed against each other head to head. All of that is true in this particular class, where the decision was one of the toughest we have ever had to make. Nate Lubick, Jason Morris, and…

Much like the class of 2009, it appears the top three in 2010 are indisputable as Jason Morris, Gerard Coleman, and Nate Lubick were ranked by all three sources while no other New England product made the cut. What becomes much less clear is where they rank when compared to each other. In fact, Scout, Rivals, and ESPN all list the players in different orders. We’ll begin with Scout who lists the top 75 players in the class of 2010. …

There is no movement to report in our top three as Alex Oriakhi, Erik Murphy, and Jamal Coombs are still far ahead of the rest of the pack. Each of the three stars had their moments shining on the national stage this summer. Oriakhi may have been at his best at the Lebron James Skills Academy where he was one of the camp’s best big men according to multiple national media outlets. Murphy dominated the nation’s #1 ranked player, Derrick…

Before we begin comparing where each of the national media outlets has players ranked, it is first important to clarify how they do their rankings. Scout, Rivals, and ESPN all list players by their year of graduation (the same as the New England Recruiting Report does), meaning everyone set to finish their high school or prep school careers in the spring of 2009 is compared against each other. Scout and ESPN list their top 100 prospects while Rivals expands the…

The class of 2008 was certainly a talented one in New England. The NEPSAC had its typical superstars with the likes of Devin Ebanks, Emmanuel Negedu, Terrence Jennings, Isaiah Thomas, and Mark Lyons. But we also saw plenty of home grown stars like David Gibbs, Alan Chaney, and Stevie Mejia. But with that group about to begin their college basketball career, our focus turns to the classes of 2009 and 2010. Local fans are in for a treat during the…

If this summer was any indication, Michael Topercer’s third season at New Hampton is likely to be his best. The skilled combo-guard saw his game go to new levels this summer as he shined during the July live period running with the Arizona Metro Elite club. He was never more impressive than in Las Vegas where he averaged over 20 points per game at the Reebok Summer Championships. That performance earned him some well deserved national recognition as he was…
