This summer Michael Bradley was generating most of his recruiting interest from upper echelon mid-major schools like Drake, VCU, and others. But towards the end of the summer the young big man and his Tennessee Tigers team had a match-up with the Connecticut Basketball Club at AAU Nationals. Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun was one of several coaches in attendance presumably there to see Andre Drummond. By the end of the game the Huskies were squarely on Bradley’s recruiting list. …

Dominic Morris, Travis Robinson, and Henry Gaskins, all three of whom play for Friends Central High School in Philadelphia, committed to Boston University first year head coach, and former Villanova assistant, Pat Chambers earlier this week. We told you last week that Jesse Morgan’s recruitment was starting to pick up in a big way with recent offers from Louisville and Rutgers in addition to a pending visit to UConn. This weekend Morgan visited Seton Hall, who had already been on him hard for quite a while. On Monday, a day after returning to South Kent, Morgan pulled the trigger and committed to the Pirates. By Sunday afternoon, the last four teams remaining in the Open Division were MBR, Bay State Magic, SECC All-Stars, and Metro Boston. Here’s a look at how the playoffs unfolded: Open Division Semi Final - MBR vs. Bay State Magic: As most know, this MBR squad is stacked with guys who can make shots from the perimeter. A lot can change in a year. At this time last year Anthony Ireland was fighting to get on the Division I radar. He didn’t have any scholarship offers at the time and was only hearing from local Connecticut schools. Fast forward a year and Ireland is one of the region’s most heavily recruited point guards. “Two things really happened,” Ireland said. “First, I just worked hard on my game in the last year and second the exposure I got…

Each and every one of them is giving 100%, because they know if they don’t there is a better than average chance that head coach Ryan Hurd will kick them off the court before they have a chance to play the game out. And while effort and intensity are clearly the central…

HSBI’s Tom Konchalski, the New England Recruiting Report, and a good number of college coaches were all on hand Wednesday night for the first of two nights of action at the annual Connecticut Top 50 Invitational. Physical Dominance Two guys who stood out in comparison to the rest of the field by virtue of their physical dominance were Stratford’s Brandon Sherrod and Christian Heritage’s Jason Perrier. Sherrod controlled the paint at both ends of the floor, ripping rebounds out of…

When the New England Recruiting Report spoke with Joe OShea in late August, the Burlington High School star had cut his list down to four and was scheduling visits with Brown, Princeton, Vermont, and Yale. But things have changed in the last six weeks and on Thursday O’Shea made a verbal commitment to Holy Cross. “Some stuff changed with my recruiting and I decided to look at Holy Cross because they are a very good school academically and they give…

Middlesex senior Rod Odom made a verbal commitment to the University of Arizona early Wednesday evening, ending what had been a long and hotly contested recruitment. Odom selected the Wildcats over West Virginia, Boston College, Vanberbilt, and Harvard. And although Sean Miller is still yet to coach a game as the head coach at the University of Arizona, he and his assistant, Emmanuel “Book” Richardson, have been recruiting Odom for quite some time now. “I think the fact that they…

In Jason Smith’s ten years as the head basketball coach at Brewster Academy he has transformed the program from one that was barely on the national radar to one of the perennial national powerhouses. The Brewster Academy program has reached its pinnacle in the last two years with a NEPSAC Class A championship in 2008 and two straight trips to the National Prep Championship Final Four in 2008 and 2009. All indications are that it will be more of the…
