Saturday was championship day in Massachusetts, especially at Worcester’s DCU Center where 6 state champions were crowned in boys and girls basketball. There were some familiar faces in Saturday night’s championship games as Maloney was playing in their second straight final, while Crosby and Trinity Catholic were both making their third appearance in the last five years. It was an exciting start to the day for high school basketball fans in Connecticut as the CIAC crowned their first two champions. The Class L and LL finals will be played tonight at the University of Connecticut’s Gampel Pavilion. Bishop Hendricken’s reign continues…but it wasn’t easy. The four time defending state champions were stretched to overtime before claiming their fifth consecutive title. For junior point guard Billy Baron, it was a coming out party that solidified his reputation as a big game player.
