Prep Profile – Tilton School

Can anyone beat Tilton? That is once again the question as another season in class AA of the NEPSAC is set to begin.  After four straight New England titles, the Rams return their five man core from last season’s championship team.  But New England titles aren’t the loan goal at Tilton anymore.  Since Alex Oriakhi, Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, and Gerard Coleman led the team on a Cinderella run to the 2009 National Prep Championship, they set a new standard of excellence,… READ MORE >

The University of Rhode Island scored a huge commitment on Wednesday when Jordan Hare (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill) turned down high-major suitors to play for coach Jim Baron in the Atlantic 10. Hare held other offers from high-major programs including Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, and others but it was a long standing relationship with URI assistant coach Preston Murphy that helped the Rams stay in the hunt and get the commitment. Murphy grew up in Saginaw and has longstanding relationships with… READ MORE >

Prep Profile – Maine Central Institute

At this time last year no one was predicting that Maine Central Institute would go on to win the first ever NEPSAC class AAA championship.  To be sure, no one ever looks forward to playing a team coached by Dave Campbell, but conventional wisdom said that while MCI would undoubtedly be one of the most disciplined teams in the NEPSAC, they just lacked the sheer talent to win the whole thing.  Conventional wisdom was wrong.  After taking on all comers… READ MORE >

Busy Weekend for Hotchkiss Players

Coach Fred Benjamin and his players at the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, Conn., are in the midst of a busy few days. Wednesday night, its open run played host to coaches from Wisconsin, Penn State, Washington and Xavier, among others. Junior Patrick Steeves (Montreal, Canada), a skilled big forward with a pure shooting stroke, emerged as the big winner from that workout, having landed offers from both Penn State and Xavier, according to Benjamin.
