Every once in a while something happens in the basketball community that transcends prep school standings, AAU affiliations, or player rankings. Sammy Mojica's recent tragedy is certainly an example of that. Mojica, a junior swingman with Brimmer & May, lost his home to a fire over the weekend. Boston University head coach Joe Jones landed his second commitment in the class of 2013 on Monday, this one from St. Thomas More post-graduate Dylan Haines. Haines is a six-foot-eleven big man who came to STM from Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, incredibly, without any division I offers. South Kent School's post-graduate center Nolan Long has sacrificed a lot to pursue playing division I basketball and now he is closer than ever. A 2012 graduate of Waterford High School in Connecticut, Long led the Lancers to the CIAC Class M state championship while averaging over 14 points and 11 rebounds per game. USA Basketball announced the roster for its 2013 USA Junior National Select Team over the weekend and New Hampton senior forward Noah Vonleh was among the ten players selected from around the country. Vermont Academy post-graduate swingman Rich Williams made a verbal commitment to Hofstra on Monday, making an announcement at the Big Apple Classic, where his Vermont Academy team traveled to play Massanutten Military Academy.
