Team Maine defeated the Stan Jones (NJ) club 78-60 to cap a championship run at the Providence Jam Fest this past weekend at Providence College (RI). They won out Sunday with wins over Diamond State (DE) 74-48, IMG Academy (FL) 75-73, and last but not least Stan Jones featuring the Kansas bound Morris twins. Jason Nicholas’ squad featured six current Bridgton Academy players (MVP Isiah Wallace, Hamid Ford, Elliott Jones Jr., Cervante Burrell, Stacey Waters, Dawda Njie), one Kents Hill…

New England made a powerful statement on Saturday as we showed that we not only have some elite level AAU programs but a great amount of depth as well. There was no better example than the 17 and under division where 10 teams won their pool and advanced to the gold bracket. Team Boston Elite – Not only did Team Boston Elite win their pool, but they earned what many people considered to be the biggest upset of the day…

The most difficult part of evaluating talent at the Providence Jam Fest is deciding which game to watch. With action taking place on 8 different courts in the 17 and under bracket alone, unfortunately it is nearly impossible to see everyone play. So here is a look at some of the players, who we saw, that played well. Tyler Strange, CMBC & Jon Goldberg, Lone Wolf: One of the first games of the night featured CMBC (MA) against Lone Wolf…

Larry Anderson is off the board…and the final destination is a bit of a surprise. The 6’5” forward who had received a good deal of interest from schools in the Atlantic 10 (and some even higher) throughout the year signed with Long Beach State. His commitment is a huge acquisition for the 49ers as they steal the highest ranked player left in New England as well as someone who was considered by many to be a mid to high major…

The finals of the Charlie Weber D.C. Hoopfest featured New Heights against D.C. Assault. But before reaching the championship game, both clubs got all they could handle from two New England teams. For New Heights, it was Connecticut Select who they faced in the semi-finals of the championship round. Select proved to be one of the best offensive teams in the field as they even went for as many as 108 points in a single game. Marcus James, Josh Turner,…

Zach Dugas is headed to St. Anselm’s next year. The 6’2” point guard, who was receiving a good deal of division I interest, decided to pull the trigger and commit to the Hawks after playing with the Connecticut Basketball Club this weekend in Pittsburgh. “I just think this is the best fit for me,” Dugas said when asked why he chose to commit instead of waiting on division I offers. “I’m real happy to be going to St. Anselm’s.” St.…

Size is always at a premium for college coaches, but inevitably it becomes even more so this time of year. While there are still a good number of quality guards left on the board, bigs become harder and harder to find as the season goes on. Here is a look at some who might be scooped up by the time the weekend is over: Larry Anderson, 6’5”, F, Winchendon: He’s more of a wing than a big man, but minus…

Today marks the first of four days in the spring evaluation period that division I college coaches are permitted to evaluate potential student athletes away from their high school’s campus. In other words, the next two weekends are the only time this spring that division I coaches are allowed to watch AAU teams compete in sanctioned events. Most local programs have traveled to either Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the Jam Fest or Washington, D.C. for Charlie Weber’s Hoop Fest. At both…
