The Warriors faced an initial set-back to start last weekend’s Connecticut Division II AAU State Tournament as they fell in the 8:30a.m. game on Saturday morning. But lucky for them the tournament was organized in double elimination format. So when they won their second game of the day on Saturday they earned the right to return on Sunday. Stand Outs: Andre Drummond, PF/C, 6'9", CBC Drummond turned heads on Sunday with his huge frame and dominance inside. Unlike most raw prospects his age, he had a lot of meat on his bones to go along with an obscenely unfair wingspan that allowed him to scoop up any rebound that came even close to him. His jumping ability, length, and size lead to many put-backs and offensive rebounds that seemed almost effortless. He dunked several times, including on the fast…

Adam Schrecengost, Drive 4 Stardum: Big bodied post who made the most of his touches on the first day. Showed he had nice touch around the rim and utilized a soft hook a few times for his buckets. Did well rebounding in his area as once he got in front of his opponent the ball was his. Faced players more athletic than him, but did well when given touches. Robert Alers, RI Hawks: Played very well in the first game…

Going into last weekend’s Maine AAU State Tournament most considered MBR to be a heavy favorite in the 17u division and an underdog in the 16u division. Nonetheless when the tournament concluded MBR came away with both titles. The 17u team defeated Express in the finals by a score of 82-65. This MBR team is a strong group led by talented sharp-shooter Keegan Hyland. But they’re far from one dimensional as they also feature crafty point guard Indiana Faithful, inside-out…

Point guards were in high demand late in this year’s recruiting period, and one more has just been scooped up as St. Thomas More’s Carl Johnson recently committed to Rider University. St. Thomas More, one of the more storied prep school programs in New England, had a fairly pedestrian start to the season by their standards, opening the year with a 9-9 record. But as the season went on the Chancellors continued to raise the level of their play and…

A week ago very few college basketball coaches had ever heard the names Jason Pranulis or Connor Boyen. In fact, with the exception of Keene State, Babson College, and Wentworth Institute of Technology, no other schools had expressed any interest in either player. All of that changed this weekend after both players had breakout performances at the Hoop Mountain Invitational with their Western Connecticut Warriors AAU club. “For a bunch of small town kids like ours, they often go under…
