MCI Big Man Makes Pick

Brown University landed a major blow in the rapidly escalating recruiting wars of the Ivy League on Wednesday when Rafael Maia, a six-foot-nine center from Maine Central Institute, committed to Bears head coach Jesse Agel. Maia is a Brazilian native who arrived in New England this year and was one of the best remaining local big men on the market. Tarczewski Enjoys Kansas Visit

Kaleb Tarczewski, the eighth ranked player in the national class of 2012, took advantage of a brief break in St. Mark’s schedule to take an unofficial visit to Kansas this weekend. The seven-footer arrived on Saturday in time to see Kansas knock off inner-state rival Kansas State in front of a sold-out crowd at Phog Allen Fieldhouse. Ledo Decommits from Providence

The latest chapter in the Ricardo Ledo saga saw him decommit from Providence in the same manner in which he announced his original commitment little more than a month ago...via his twitter page. "I'm no longer a providence friar I decided to open my recruitment back up and view my other options," said Ledo's twitter account. Mayo Visits Providence

Providence College is riding an improbable two game winning streak after scoring back to back upsets over Louisville and Villanova last week at the Dunkin Donuts Center. The second of those victories came with an added bonus as Notre Dame Prep guard Todd Mayo was in attendance on Thursday for an unofficial visit. Gabas Makes Pick

Holderness senior forward Gabas Maldunas made a verbal commitment to Dartmouth last week after receiving his likely letter. Maldunas is a six-foot-eight forward with a rapidly developing inside-out game. The Lithuanian native arrived at Holderness for his junior year where he made an immediate impact on the NEPSAC. ESPN Updates National Rankings

ESPN has updated their rankings in the national classes of 2011, 2012, and 2013 and as usual New England was well represented. Notre Dame Prep’s Khem Birch is New England’s top ranked prospect in 2011 as the six-foot-nine big man finished in the 11th spot in the ESPNU 100 just two months after signing with Pittsburgh.
