ESPN Updates National Rankings

ESPN has updated their rankings in the national classes of 2011, 2012, and 2013 and as usual New England was well represented. 

Notre Dame Prep’s Khem Birch is New England’s top ranked prospect in 2011 as the six-foot-nine big man finished in the 11th spot in the ESPNU 100 just two months after signing with Pittsburgh. 

St. Andrew’s guard Michael Carter-Williams has played himself into McDonald’s contention with a huge start to the season as he is one of the fastest rising prospects in the senior class, moving all the way up to the 18th spot. 

A pair of prep products and future St. John’s teammates crack the top 50 as Brewster Academy’s Jakarr Sampson checks in at 35 and South Kent’s Maurice Harkless at 41. 

Worcester native Naadir Tharpe is the second Brewster product to make the list as the Kansas bound floor general is ranked 14th among point guards and 74th overall. 

St. John’s Prep swingman Pat Connaughton moves up a few spots to 96 after making his debut among the top 100 this fall. 

In the ESPNU Super 60, Andre Drummond remains the nation’s top prospect in the national class of 2012.  The Connecticut native is the first of five centers ranked among the top 10 players in the country.  The fifth member of that group is St. Mark’s Kaleb Tarczewski as the New Hampshire native makes his debut among the nation’s top ten. 
Ricardo Ledo and Alex Murphy continue to be two of the top swingmen in the country as they come in at 11 and 15 respectively, giving New England four of the top 15 players in the country. 

New England’s presence is equally powerful in the ESPNU Terrific 25 as two of the top four prospects in the national class of 2013 come from within our region’s borders.  Tilton’s Nerlens Noel moves up a spot and is now the third ranked prospect in the country while Northwest Catholic’s Kuran Iverson is just one behind at four. 

Noel and Iverson are joined by Brewster Academy’s Deonte Bruton at 20 and Noah Vonleh, who makes his national rankings debut at 23.
