After updating the rankings on a state by state basis over the last two weeks, today we have updated the New England rankings as a whole, beginning with the class of 2011. Only those rising seniors who are returning to the region this year where considered for this set of rankings, meaning incoming prep products will not be included until the fall when we have had a chance to visit the top prep schools and get a first hand look…

Of the 49 other states in the nation, perhaps none can match the talent that Massachusetts has to offer in the class of 2012. Two of the top ten players in the country is just the beginning as the class also features a third player ranked within the top 25 and a few others who have a chance to play at the highest level. Khem Birch and Alex Murphy have spent the better part of the last year going back…

Worcester Academy’s rising senior center Patrick Ackerman ended his recruitment on Sunday, making a verbal commitment to Penn State head coach Ed DeChellis following an official visit to the school’s campus this weekend. Ackerman was one of the big winners of the July live period, specifically the second half of the live period, as he played his best basketball while in Orlando with his Middlesex Magic squad at the AAU Super Showcase and Nationals. Those ten days changed the Rutland…

New England Basketball has never been stronger….at least that certainly seems to be the case when looking at ESPN’s national rankings. While the 2011 class is certainly respectable with Michael Carter-Williams cracking the top twenty, Naadir Tharpe checking in at 66, and a handful of incoming prep products also ranked within the top 100, New England’s presence in the classes of 2012 and 2013 is simply off the charts. The “Super 60” list of top rising juniors begins with Andre…

Taft senior C.J. Moss ended his recruitment earlier this week, committing to Tufts University in the NESCAC. "I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to choose from programs ranging from division one to division three,” Moss said. “The main reason that I chose Tufts over the other NESCACS, UAA, and Patriot League schools was because I believe Coach Sheldon, Coach Malone and Coach Zalaski are determined to do what it takes to win a National Championship.” Moss began his…

Newly appointed New Haven men’s basketball coach Ted Hotaling hasn’t coached a game yet in Charger Gymnasium but has already scored his first win for the program. Hotaling delivered a five man recruiting class that has the talent to make an immediate impact as he looks to rebuild a UNH program that won just five games last season. The class centers around two players with New England roots in Jeff Cannon and Jeff Adkins. Cannon was a standout at East…

It should come as no surprise that Andre Drummond sits atop the Connecticut 2012 rankings. After all, when you’re the number one player in the country, it’s a pretty safe bet to assume you’re the top ranked player in your state. Number two was no less difficult to select as South Kent swingman Ricardo Ledo is a consensus top 15 player in the country and one of the most explosive scorers around. Hotchkiss guard Clyde Smith checks in at number…

Even in late August there is still a lot of movement in terms of players transferring to new high schools or finalizing their plans for a post-graduate year. Here are some of the latest headlines: Canty & Robinson Heading to Brimmer Brimmer and May scored big this month with two significant additions. The first is Ryan Canty, the six-foot-nine 240 lbs center who will leave the Tilton School but remain in the class of 2011. The Danvers, Massachusetts native could…

Two months ago Scott King’s phone was quiet. Despite being a long, athletic, and very skilled six-foot-eight forward, King hadn’t attracted much division I attention, too often being passive and not always competing with a sense of urgency. But that all changed rapidly this summer as King brought his game to new levels and saw his recruiting stock rise perhaps more so than any other player in New England. “I finally got more confident on the floor,” King said. “I…
