New Haven Welcomes Five Man Class

Newly appointed New Haven men’s basketball coach Ted Hotaling hasn’t coached a game yet in Charger Gymnasium but has already scored his first win for the program.

Hotaling delivered a five man recruiting class that has the talent to make an immediate impact as he looks to rebuild a UNH program that won just five games last season.

The class centers around two players with New England roots in Jeff Cannon and Jeff Adkins

Cannon was a standout at East Boston High School in Massachusetts before taking his game to Roxbury Community College for the last two seasons.  He had a storied two year career at Roxbury, leading the team to a third place finish in the NCJAA 2010 Championships by scoring 32 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and handing out 3 assists.  Cannon was named to the NCJAA Region XXI First-Team and a NJCAA Third-Team Athletic All-American.

Adkins arrives in New Haven after spending his post-graduate season at the Tilton School.  The New Jersey native is a pure winner with a long history of success.  He led Piscataway High School to a 48-11 record during his junior and senior seasons, including a run to the state finals as a junior and a conference championship as a senior.  At Tilton, Adkins was the starting point guard for a Rams team that captured their third straight NEPSAC class B title as he averaged 10 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals for game.

Also joining the UNH class are three New York products in: Justin Exum, a six-foot-two scoring guard from Xaverian High School who was previously given a mid-major division I rating of 86 by ESPN.com; Ashanti DePass, a six-foot-three guard from Baldwin High School who earned all-conference accolades in both his junior and senior seasons; and Krystian Foriest, a versatile six-foot-five forward from Wings Academy who averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds during his team’s post-season run last year.
