Steve Donahue’s first recruiting class at Boston College was a big one with nine prospects and seven scholarship players committing to the Eagles in 2011, but on Tuesday, Donahue landed what could very well be the most important recruit of his tenure thus far at B.C., when New Hampton point guard Olivier Hanlan made a verbal commitment. Hanlan took an official visit to Boston College last week during the opening weekend of the practice season. He visited Virginia Tech in…

Kevin Crescenzi, a six-foot-three post-graduate swingman from the Tilton School, committed to Dartmouth today. Crescenzi is a Florida native who starred at this summer's Hoop Mountain All-Academic Camp and continued to grow his recruitment upon arriving at Tilton this fall, landing more than one division I scholarship offer. Crescenzi took an official visit to Dartmouth this weekend, and committed less than 48 hours later on mid-day Tuesday. A shot-maker with range that extends well beyond the three-point line, he also boasts…

The Lee Academy post-graduate basketball program operates in two very distinct worlds. First and foremost, they are a New England based prep school, with one of the more talent laden teams in the region. However, they are not a member of the NEPSAC. That means that while Lee will annually lock up with many of the region’s best during the regular season, they aren’t governed by the same set of rules and aren’t eligible for the same post-season tournament. …

Joseph has picked up offers from Boston College, Tennessee, Maryland, TCU, Fordham, St. Bonaventure, and New Hampshire in recent weeks after Delaware became the first school to offer him this summer. Now the sophomore guard says Purdue is the latest high-major school to express serious interest. While Joseph’s recruiting didn’t necessarily…

Can anyone beat Tilton? That is once again the question as another season in class AA of the NEPSAC is set to begin. After four straight New England titles, the Rams return their five man core from last season’s championship team. But New England titles aren’t the loan goal at Tilton anymore. Since Alex Oriakhi, Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, and Gerard Coleman led the team on a Cinderella run to the 2009 National Prep Championship, they set a new standard of excellence,…

The University of Rhode Island scored a huge commitment on Wednesday when Jordan Hare (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill) turned down high-major suitors to play for coach Jim Baron in the Atlantic 10. Hare held other offers from high-major programs including Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, and others but it was a long standing relationship with URI assistant coach Preston Murphy that helped the Rams stay in the hunt and get the commitment. Murphy grew up in Saginaw and has longstanding relationships with…

At this time last year no one was predicting that Maine Central Institute would go on to win the first ever NEPSAC class AAA championship. To be sure, no one ever looks forward to playing a team coached by Dave Campbell, but conventional wisdom said that while MCI would undoubtedly be one of the most disciplined teams in the NEPSAC, they just lacked the sheer talent to win the whole thing. Conventional wisdom was wrong. After taking on all comers…
