2014 Rankings Announced
After spending the last six weeks checking out the young up and coming talent on the AAU circuit as well as the New England Elite 75 Showcase – Frosh/Soph Edition, the New England Recruiting Report is ready to announce our rankings in the class of 2014.
The region’s top three could be just as easily described as three of the best in the entire nation. Noah Vonleh sits atop the list to start the year. Ranked 6th overall by ESPN and 2nd overall by Rivals, the Massachusetts native is no longer a national secret and literally showing new dimensions to his game with every passing weekend.
Wayne Selden checks in second overall. The six-foot-five two-guard had a tremendous summer, playing a big part in a pair of AAU national championships and a Nike EYBL title, and recently returned to the court after missing the first month of the pre-season after his August surgery. One of the most explosive athletes and scorers in the country, Selden already has his choice of potential college suitors.
Chris McCullough was the national class of 2012’s breakout performer this summer and has had a laundry list of schools follow him to the Salisbury School this fall. Long and athletic with an emerging skill set, the New York native is just beginning to scratch the surface of his incredible potential.
Jared Terrell and Kaleb Joseph are neck in neck in terms of being New England’s top sophomore guard. Terrell was the run-away choice through the summer but no one has emerged more this fall than Joseph and he now holds the high-major offers to prove it. They debut at four and five respectively on the most recent list.
A pair of big men are up next as Paschal Chukwu and Jacquil Taylor were two of the big stories at the Elite 75 – Frosh/Soph. Taylor has continued to back it up throughout the fall while Chukwu hasn’t been quite as active on the circuit but is nonetheless pinging the high-major radar with his seven-foot-one frame.
Rounding out the top ten are Worcester Academy’s Matt Cimino, East Hartford’s Kahari Beaufort, and Hotchkiss’ Makai Mason.
The Connecticut rankings are led by McCullough, Chukwu, Beaufort, and Mason while Quincey McKnight and Levy Gillespie Jr. are right behind.
Joseph, Taylor, and Cimino are the big three in Massachusetts while Alec Brennan and Jeff Spellman have also cracked the top five.
Dustin Cole is the runaway winner in Maine while Michael McDevitt, Zach Gilpin, Andrew Cartwright, and Justin Zukowski also appear on the list.
Vonleh, Selden, and Terrell lead the way in New Hampshire while Abdul-Malik Abu and Mike Auger round out the top five.
The St. Andrew’s pair of Henri Bolton and Bonzie Colson are at the top of the list in Rhode Island, followed by Kealen Ives, Edson Dascy, and Dexter Thompson.
Vermont’s top five includes Ryan Booth, Pavin Parrish, Brendan OShea, Chris Collins, and Tom Fitzgerald.
