The Tilton Boys Varsity Basketball team recently returned from Peoria, Illinois where they competed in the State Farms Tournament of Champions. After wins against Sunrise Christian Academy of Kansas and Trent International of Texas, Tilton faced off against Huntington Prep of West Virginia in Saturday’s championship, in a match-up of two of the top five programs in the country. While the 2011 National Prep Showcase once again welcomed the very best post-graduate programs from across the country, last week’s event was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to prep showcases in New England. Two of Boston’s finest basketball programs, Charlestown and New Mission, went up against each other in the Beantown Slam at the Dorchester House on Friday. It was interesting to see a match-up of two of the top MIAA teams so early in the year. Charlestown started off the game with a 10-0 run. The second annual East-West Showcase, hosted by MBNation, was highlighted by an announcement from Alex Furness, the Cushing Academy post-graduate and local Maine product who announced that he had signed a National Letter of Intent with Bentley College.
