Drummond and Jernigan Pick up First Offers

Fordham University, which plays host to the Rumble in the Bronx every June, became the first school to make scholarship offers to Andre Drummond and Anthony Jernigan this weekend.  Drummond and Jernigan were both impressive as they led CBC’s 15 and under team to a 2-1 record.

While both youngsters still have plenty to prove on the floor, their potential is obvious.  Drummond has a lethal combination of size and athleticism while Jernigan is already a wizard with the basketball in his hands.

In Saturday afternoon’s match-up with the New England Playaz, Drummond was aggressive inside, finishing powerfully with two hands while also anchoring his team’s defensive effort with his shot-blocking ability.  Meanwhile, Jernigan was breaking his man down off the dribble, showing his ability to create offense for himself and his teammates.

Although both players are likely years away from making any decisions about their future, the fact that they have already received a scholarship offer from a school in the Atlantic 10 is likely just a sign of things to come.

What is most important, is for both players to use this scholarship offer as motivation to continue to work hard and improve their games.  If they can do that, then Fordham is likely to be the first of many schools to offer scholarships.
