Class of ‘25 Commitment Catch Up pt. 2

Today’s group featured in the commitment catch up has a ton of different styles of players from different ends of New England. Some prospects went pretty under the radar, and made the most of the opportunities provided to them.

Here’s who we took a dive into today.

Teshaun Steele, New Haven

While Teshaun Steele won a boatload of games at Worcester North including a 45 game winning streak, and two MIAA D1 state titles, he still flew under the radar by many. In his lone season at Darrow, Steele proved a lot of people wrong and showed just how good of a player he is, and why he was so successful before going prep. One of the best attributes of his game is the fact that at 6’7”, he has the length, footwork and quickness to switch onto anyone on the opposing team, or simply lock up the other team’s top scorer.

Moving on to the University of New Haven next year, it’s pretty evident that he is a steal in the NE-10 Conference, and has potential to make a major impact immediately.

Terence Thompson, Caldwell

Similar to Teshuan Steele, Terence Thompson is another 6’7” forward/wing archetype with ultra-versatility to his game to cover multiple positions. Outside of his defensive versatility, Thompson can really attack the rim to flush down dunks with force. His stellar play to a successful season for Redemption Christian earned him Second Team All Power Five Conference honors.

The Rochester New York native will head down to New Jersey to join the Caldwell University Cougars of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.

Andrew Mabry, Dodge City

While Andrew Mabry had become a name synonymous with basketball in the basketball capital of the country, his recruitment had still been few and far in between. With Bridgeport Prep however, Mabry was able to get seen and find a new home. Mabry’s crafty finishing stood out all winter, as well as his ability to convert off the bounce on pull-ups.

The Power Five All-Conference Team member will head to Kansas and join JUCO powerhouse Dodge City as he attempts to keep grinding and get to the scholarship level after two years.

Ian Plankey, Wesleyan

Ian Plankey had built quite a reputation for himself over the grassroots season in 2024 with Team NSSA, and further constructed it this past winter. The big forward plays physical, tough, and exudes energy to his teammates to really get things going. Plankey’s upside is definitely evident as he’s been playing high level basketball for only a few years, and can really pressure the defense with his finishing ability in the paint.

With scholarship interest for a while, Plankey ultimately heads to NESCAC to join national powerhouse Wesleyan, who just made a huge run in the NCAA Tournament this season.

Quintin Floyd, St. Michael’s

Quintin Floyd has been a pivotal piece to the success at Choate over the last couple years in Class A of the NEPSAC, while also receiving back to back All-Founders League nominations. Floyd controls the pace of the offense at the guard spot, and has the ability to change speeds off the bounce instantly, and score it at all three levels. He made some noise in the HGSL with The House We Built as well.

Moving on to the NE-10 in the fall, Floyd will have a shot to make an instant impact to a St. Michael’s squad in need of good guard play.

Chris Daniels, WPI

Chris Daniels went to Northfield Mount Hermon for a postgraduate season following the completion of his career at Lynnfield High School in Massachusetts. The 6’8” forward jumped caught our eye back in June of 2024 for his play at the Elite 75 College Showcase in Manchester New Hampshire. Daniels’ feel for the game stands out, as well as his ability to contribute on the boards with touch and a rebounding motor.

In the fall the Lynnfield native will join Worcester Polytechnic Institute as they look to keep their winning ways in the NEWMAC going.

Giacomo Kaplan, Emory

Another big part of the Belmont Hill school basketball team over the past few years, Giacomo Kaplan is moving on to play in college. The guard ended the season on a very high note reaching 1,000 career points, and putting up an impressive stat line of 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists per game. The sharpshooter also converted at about a 40% clip from deep.

Kaplan will travel down to Georgia this fall, joining Emory University in the ultra competitive UAA Conference.

Manny Hidalgo, Curry

Manny Hidalgo made a ton of noise over his career outside of one of the most upward trending cities in New England. The guard’s skilled ability to get to the rack using hesitations and step-through moves allowed him to score the ball at a high level. Throughout the year he averaged 15.9 points per game, and helped South Portland High School to be the Class AA MPA runner ups.

Hidalgo will take his talents to Curry College of the Commonwealth Coast Conference.
