Ayodele Coker, a 6’11 center from South Kent School by way of Nigeria, was one of the best available five men left on the board in the national recruiting class of 2007. Now he is pledged to join Head Coach Norm Roberts and his St. John’s program in the Fall of next year. Coach Roberts and his staff were able to beat out the likes of Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Florida, and a host of others to secure the services of the…

David Gibbs, a 6’4 shooting guard from the Masters School in Connecticut, committed to the University of Massachusetts on Friday while on campus for Midnight Madness. Gibbs and his long-time AAU coach Pat Sullivan both credit UMass Coach Travis Ford and his staff along with the team's high tempo style of play as the main reasons for the commitment. "Their coaches were always real with me" said Gibbs "and I really like their style of play." Sullivan agreed saying "Travis Ford was…

Make no mistake about it Andre McFarland is a very good basketball player. At 6’6 he is incredibly strong for someone who plays the small forward position. When he catches the ball on the perimeter and puts his head down there is virtually no stopping him from getting into the paint where he can finish with a nice touch or power up in traffic. He also rebounds the ball tremendously well, is a threat from behind the three-point line, and…

Many college coaches are saying the same thing this year in terms of recruiting, “The Fall has been slow.” In other words while the daily open gym sessions at local prep schools and top high schools have been as good as ever, their hasn’t been any type of event that featured many of the regions top prospects in the same gym together since the summer ended. That trend came to a screeching halt today. The game of the day began…

Matt Glass commits to Massachusetts: The Vermont native had primarily Ivy League and division II interest coming out of high school last year, but after a solid summer with the Rhode Island Hawks and a terrific first month at Northfield Mount Hermon, he has absolutely blown up. After receiving offers from the likes of Northwestern and Richmond, Glass decided to stay close to home and select the University of Massachusetts. Glass joins other New England products Matt Hill and Travon…

When New England Basketball Services was in the New Hampton gym earlier this year we came away thinking Guy Alang Ntang was a potential high major recruit. Even after going through two hours of conditioning earlier that day Alang Ntang was still knocking down threes, driving to the basket for dunks, and scoring on the block. The only problem was that because he had not played during the July “live” period not many people had heard of him. Those who…

Notre Dame Prep Head Coach Bill Barton likes his team to play a certain way. He wants to push the tempo, take the first good shot available, and play at least ten players every game. In order to play at such a fast pace for the entire game it is imperative for a coach to have good depth and athletic players, and Coach Barton has exactly that. In order for Notre Dame to push the ball up the court as…

Chris Prescott, Mike Moore, Charoy Bentley, and TJ Robinson were all in the University of Bridgeport gym on Tuesday night. While all four solidified their status as top players in the CIAC it was newcomer Jeron Belin who may have proved that he belongs in the same group. Belin, a 6’6 senior wing player from Maloney High School in Meriden, first caught the attention of the fans and coaches sitting courtside with a variety of explosive dunks in transition. In…

When you scroll down the St. Thomas More roster the names don’t jump out at you like they do at some of the other NEPSAC Class A schools. With the exception of 6’8 junior small forward Devin Ebanks (pictured above) and possibly 6’3 post-graduate shooting guard Justin Sofman, who is committed to Rutgers, even the most passionate high school basketball fans will probably have never heard of too many of these names. That makes this group about par for the…

Wolfeboro New Hampshire is known for two things; summer tourism and prep school basketball. Since arriving at Brewster Academy 8 years ago Head Coach Jason Smith has done a tremendous job building a program that attracts top players from all around the country. But now perhaps the greatest prospect to come through the Smith Center doors is 6’7 junior forward and Nigerian native Emmanuel Negedu. Emmanuel left his home and family just prior to his freshmen year to attend Brewster.…
