Andre McFarland Commits to Idaho
Make no mistake about it Andre McFarland is a very good basketball player. At 6’6 he is incredibly strong for someone who plays the small forward position. When he catches the ball on the perimeter and puts his head down there is virtually no stopping him from getting into the paint where he can finish with a nice touch or power up in traffic. He also rebounds the ball tremendously well, is a threat from behind the three-point line, and a versatile defender.
With that kind of game and physical abilities it was no surprise that coming out of high school last year Andre had offers from schools at the high major level. In fact, he even committed to USC for a short time before opting to attend Brewster Academy for a post-graduate year. Since arriving at in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire this Fall he has had more high major interest including the likes of Iowa State where he visited officially last week, Indiana, Michigan, and Nevada.
However, when it came time to make a decision and chose a school Andre opted for the University of Idaho. Sure he was excited when the students started chanting his name on his visit to Iowa St, sure he must have dreamed about playing at the highest level, but ultimately academics played a major part in Andre’s decision. The bruiser who has probably caused some physical pain for his opponents on the court over the years now wants to learn to ease people’s pain by entering a pre-med program.
So while the Idaho pre-med program may have added their next doctor, first year Head Coach George Pfeifer adds an absolute steal of a recruit. Andre should be able to step right him and provide an immediate contribution as well as be a potential all-conference player in the WAC in a few years.
