McGary Trims List

Brewster Academy's Mitch McGary distinguished himself not just as one of the nation's premier big men this spring and summer but as one of the nation's best players period.

Accordingly, the Indiana native was seeing recruitment from the vast majority of college basketball's powerhouse programs east of the Mississippi.

Tuesday, McGary gave some order to his recruitment by announcing his top six via ESPN's Dave Telep.  The list includes Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, Michigan, Duke and Kentucky.

McGary has already taken unofficial visits to Maryland and Michigan and hopes to see the other four campuses before returning to Brewster on September 10th.

Up first is a trip to Florida which is scheduled for later this week.  A trip to Kentucky will follow shortly after head coach John Calipari returns from his stint as the head coach of the Dominican national team.  Then McGary and his family are scheduled to see Duke and North Carolina just before he arrives at Brewster according to what his father told Adam Zagoria

McGary has earned the reputation of being high school basketball's version of Tyler Hansbrough thanks to his incredible motor and toughness, not to mention similar power.  But the six-foot-nine southpaw is also skilled with the ball and able to make shots out to 20 feet, put the ball on the floor to start the break, and be a deceptively good passer.
