Heslip Picks Baylor
Brady Heslip's recruiting journey is about to take its latest turn.
Heslip started his year by traveling from his home in Canada to New Hampton, New Hampshire where he spent the first half of the year at the New Hampton School, establishing himself as one of the top guards in the NEPSAC.
Heslip left New Hampton at mid-year and headed to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts where he enrolled at Boston College where he finished the season off as a red-shirt, expecting to have his full four years of eligibility beginning in the fall.
When Eagles' head coach Al Skinner and his staff were dismissed earlier this spring, Heslip received his release and was pursued by a variety of mid to high major college basketball programs.
Heslip ultimately cut his list to Baylor, Boise State, Utah State, Oregon, and Georgetown before signing with Baylor on Wednesday.
"Brady comes from an amazing basketball lineage in Canada," Baylor head coach Scott Drew said. "His uncle (Jay Triano) was a great player and now coaches in the NBA (Toronto), his dad (Tom Heslip) was a great college player and his grandfather (Howie Triano) was considered by some as the 'Bob Cousy' of Canada. Not only is Brady a tremendous individual, he's a great shooter. He will continue the long line of Baylor guards that were great shooters."
Despite having already sat out the spring semester as a red-shirt Heslip will likely be forced to sit out the 2010-2011 season per NCAA transfer requirements although he would likely have a good chance at a waiver from the NCAA.
