Drummond Drawing a Crowd

St. Thomas More’s sophomore center Andre Drummond has been a busy young man this week as he has played in front of some of the nation’s most prestigious college basketball coaches.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari made the trip to Connecticut last Friday.

Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun was in the gym on Monday.

On Tuesday, North Carolina head coach sat next to Villanova head coach Jay Wright.

Assistants from West Virginia, Georgetown, UMass, and Providence have also been in the St. Thomas More gym in the last week as Drummond continues to attract interest from the highest levels of college basketball.

Despite essentially having his choice of the national championship caliber programs, Drummond is still staying mum on his recruitment, politely telling reporters that he prefers not to talk about it right now and declining to give any type of list.

That policy is unlikely to change in the coming months according to J.R. Hargreaves, director of Connecticut Basketball Club, as the sophomore sensation plans to play out the rest of the spring and summer before narrowing his list.

That schedule will include trips to the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions in May and the Rumble in the Bronx in June with CBC, who are currently undefeated on this year’s grassroots circuit having captured two championships in two weekends.  Then Drummond will travel to Germany with Team USA for the FIBA u17 World Championship in July.

Drummond made his debut with Team USA last summer as he traveled to Argentina with the u16 national team, helping them defeat the home country in the gold medal game of the FIBA Americas Championship.
