With most of their players participating in fall sports, the Rivers School hosted their only open gym of the fall on Sunday, giving college coaches their only opportunity to see sophomore sensation Jermaine Samuels among others. The workout attracted Boston College head coach Jim Christian as well as assistants from Connecticut, Providence, Villanova, Boston University, and Holy Cross. The defending ISL champions return a young, but obviously talented roster. Worcester Academy has had two very different types of teams in the last two years, and this season, head coach Jamie Sullivan is undoubtedly looking to combine the best of both. Two years ago, Sullivan’s roster had terrific talent but lacked ideal chemistry. They earned the top seed in the Class AA tournament but were upset by St. Andrew’s. Last year the roles were reversed, Worcester had all the intangibles to reflect their head coach’s philosophy but lacked the same…

Wilbraham & Monson Academy post-graduate forward Derick Newton made a verbal commitment to Stetson on Friday night. Newton had only been in the New England prep ranks for little over a month but had already made a strong impression with college coaches, drawing a strong amount of attention from low to mid-major division I programs. The six-foot-six forward has a terrific basketball body with muscle mass and definition alike to match his very long arms. His skill set includes range…

With all six NEPSAC AAA programs having now been previewed, we’ll turn our attention to Class AA where Cushing Academy is the defending two-time champions. Things are very different for head coach Barry Connors’ squad this season though as they are now without their staring backcourt of Kaleb Joseph and Jalen Adams. Fortunately for the Penguins though they’ve reloaded with a post-graduate guard from Spain and a highly talented sophomore trio. The task of filling those big backcourt shoes will…

As Whit Lesure prepares for his 18th season at Bridgton Academy, he’s experienced both the highs and the lows that go along with leading a prep school program for that long a tenure, especially at a school that has had varying philosophies over the years. Ten years ago, Lesure was on the verge of leading Bridgton to a period of unprecedented success as they’d capture the NEPSAC three-peat, winning the class A crown in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Things began…

Aaron Carver is a six-foot-seven forward from North Carolina. He’s strong, athletic, versatile, already committed to Old Dominion, and expected to be a very important player for South Kent this year. What truly makes him unique though, at least on this roster, is that he is in the class of 2015. That’s no typo. Carver has the potential to be the lone member of the class in the Cardinal’s starting line-up, making this as young a team as head coach…
