Weekend Visits
Vermont Academy had a "bye" in this weekend's prep school schedule and that gave quite a few of VA's top players the opportunity to take weekend visits.
Most notable was the tandem of Bruce Brown and Tyrique Jones who both traveled south to Virginia to attend VCU's game against Richmond. VCU has two former Vermont Academy coaches on staff as Jesse Bopp is in his second season as the Director of Basketball Operations and Cody Hatt is in his first season as a Graduate Assistant.
VCU has recruited Brown aggressively over the last year and head coach Shaka Smart made his most recent trip to New England last weekend for the Hoophall Classic amid rumors that Brown was considering declassifying back to his original 2015 class.
Brown is also being pursued by the likes of UConn, Indiana, and UMass among others.
Jones has been picking up new offers at a rapid rate lately as well with Minnesota, Providence, UConn, Cincinnati, Boston College, Charlotte, Xavier and UMass having all offered since the beginning of the school year.
Brown and Jones weren't the only players taking visits this weekend. Post-graduate swingman Ronnie Suggs was at Miami (OH) this weekend after picking up an offer from Miami last week. Suggs is one of the best available players left in New England's class of 2015.
Sophomore center Samuel Japhet-Mathias was at Madison Square Garden on Saturday to see St. John's host Providence. Japhet-Mathis has picked up offers from Clemson, UConn, and Georgetown since arriving at Vermont.
Junior guard Nick Brooks and sophomore guard Mike Mundowa were in Philadelphia to see Penn host Harvard at the Palestra as well.
Vermont Academy head coach Alex Popp recently sat down with NERR and CoxHub to talk about some of his players and who was recruiting them the hardest. Click here to listen to that podcast.
