In order to win the Class B tournament Marianapolis Prep will have to be able to beat the Tilton School and their three headed monster of Alex Oriakhi, Jamal Coombs, and Gerard Coleman. Marianapolis head coach Dave Vitale knows that and has built his roster accordingly. While shutting down Tilton’s top three might be a near impossibility, you need defenders who can contain them. With the additions of 6’7” big man Noel Jones, 6’6” forward Josh Vital, and 6’1” guard…

Cushing Academy was one of the best team’s in class B last year. After a tremendously successful regular season, they advanced to the semi-finals of the conference tournament before falling in a hard fought battle. Despite the disappointment of ending their season in a close game, there was still plenty to be excited about as they would return one of the nation’s top point guards in Phil Pressey….that is until early this summer when Pressey decided to transfer to a…

Phillips Exeter Academy has become prime stomping grounds for some of the best academic programs in the country. Every week college coaches from the likes of the Ivy League, Patriot League, NESCAC, UAA, and others make the trip to Exeter, New Hampshire to see the top student athletes the country has to offer. It was no different the day we were in the gym, as Yale and Dartmouth were two of the schools represented that day. And these coaches really…

Just about to begin his second season as the head coach at Quinnipiac University and head coach Tom Moore has found the guy he wants to run his program for the foreseeable future. The Bobcats got a verbal commitment from Dave Johnson this week, a very talented point guard from the St. Mark’s School in Massachusetts. When Michael Topercer leaves the New Hampton school at the end of this year he will have a long and distinguished resume. Perhaps the most telling statement about his impact on New Hampton basketball is that he has started in their backcourt for each of his three seasons, which is a feet almost unheard of in a league as talented as Class A of the NEPSAC. He also serves as the captain of this year’s team. Following Topercer’s senior season…

On Tuesday morning Blake McLimons announced that he was making a verbal commitment to the University of Michigan. The decision comes just 24 hours after McLimons returned to Worcester following his official visit to the Big Ten Campus. “He visited there this weekend, Saturday through Monday, and enjoyed the climate, enjoyed the academic set-up they have at Michigan and felt very comfortable with the business management program,” Worcester Academy head coach told the Detroit Free Press. “He went into this…

When we visited the Worcester Academy gym last month the talent upgrade was immediately noticeable. They had a quick new point guard with long arms and a good shooting touch, the little brother of former Louisville star Reece Gaines who would be able to facilitate offense from the wing position with his high I.Q. and passing ability, and a face-up four man who was drawing interest from the highest levels because of his combination of size and shooting touch. But…

It was a little over one year ago when Sam Markle was starring on the summer circuit with his Connecticut Gold AAU club, that he picked up a scholarship offer from UMBC, a division I program from the America East who would go on to their first NCAA tournament later that year. At the time Markle wasn’t ready to make his final decision, so he played out his senior season at Amity High School and ultimately opted for a post-graduate…

Although the individual state previews won’t be released for another month, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise when Windsor HS is right at the top of Connecticut’s list. On Saturday they showed an overwhelming amount of talent, depth, and athleticism as they beat a very good Watertown HS (MA) team by a wide margin. All of the normal suspects got involved for Windsor as Steve Samuels finished with 15, Tyrus Weaver 14, Ryan Dulaire 11, Adrian Satchell 10, Doug…

Kostadin Marshavelski had college coaches all along the eastern seaboard intrigued upon his arrival at Wilbraham & Monson Academy this fall. It isn’t often that a skilled 6’10” big man pops up ready and waiting to be recruited…and a plethora of schools from seemingly everywhere east of the Mississippi were only too eager to make the trip to Wilbraham, Massachusetts to get a look at New England’s most recent international sensation.
