Massey Division I Bound

The Sacred Heart men’s basketball program has experienced unprecedented levels of success in recent years, advancing to two of the last three NEC conference finals.

One of the keys to that success has been the astute evaluation skills of the Pioneer coaching staff.  While head coach Dave Bike and his staff has certainly landed their fair share of high valued recruits over the years, they have also never been afraid to take a chance on a player who they saw an upside in.

Enter Sacred Heart’s latest signing in Boston English’s Paris Massey, who is the sheer definition of upside.

Massey is a 6’7” post player with all the physical tools to be a very effective player in the NEC.  He’s tremendously long, runs the floor like a deer, is extremely athletic, and a super quick leaper.  Most importantly, he’s a great kid with a strong work ethic and desire to get better.

“He’s a great kid and he’s shown that he can play against division I kids,” said Massey’s AAU coach Bill Washington.  “It’s an absolutely great situation for him.”

Put it all together and it didn’t matter that Massey didn’t have any other division I offers, the Sacred Heart coaching staff saw the potential for him to eventually be an effective player for them and so they pulled the trigger.

If history is any indication, it wouldn’t be wise to bet against them.
