Perry and Harper Commit To URI

With Jalen Harper’s recent commitment to the University of Rhode Island, he joins fellow class of 2025 prospect Javon Perry in bolstering the Rams’ future lineup.

These two promising recruits represent important additions as URI starts to build momentum under head coach Archie Miller.

The Rams are off to a blazing 9-0 start this season in non-conference play, highlighted by an impressive victory over in-state rival Providence College. This hot streak has only added to the excitement surrounding the program, and Harper and Perry’s commitments further signal a bright future for URI in the Atlantic 10.

Harper, a Philadelphia native, is currently in his postgrad season at the Newman School, where he’s made an immediate impact. Known for his versatile skill set, he's got great size, attacks the basket and contributes in all facets of the game. His ability to rebound and create at the guard spot have shined in recent play in the region.

Before joining Newman, Harper graduated from St. Joe’s Prep in Philly, already carrying a strong reputation as a standout prospect. Although he entered the summer with a few early Division 1 offers, his stock rose considerably following a productive grassroots season. His performance against high-level competition thus far this season has helped solidify his place among the top recruits in the region.

Harper’s future teammate, Javon Perry, brings his own unique skill set to URI.

A Springfield native currently at the MacDuffie School, Perry is entering his second season with the program. His growth over the past six months has been particularly noteworthy, as his recruitment gained traction following a strong grassroots campaign with Expressions Elite. Programs like UTEP, St. Bonaventure, and URI all extended offers, but Perry ultimately chose to stay close to home.

Perry has been a force in the high school ranks, especially in the frontcourt. His athleticism stands out inside as he meets shots up high and can finish emphatically. He's very mobile and has a lot of length to him to seal off the paint on defense.

Before joining MacDuffie, Perry's career took off at Putnam Tech in Springfield where he played alongside Andrew Mabry. His physical presence and ability to control the paint make him a significant addition to URI’s interior rotation down the line.

Perry voiced his excitement to join the program in talks with NERR: “The coaching staff and the fan base are amazing and I feel welcomed there!”

With Harper and Perry joining the fold, Archie Miller has secured high-upside players to strengthen both the backcourt and frontcourt for the Rams. Barrett Loer, another versatile player that thrives as a bigger guard is set join the program next season as well. As URI continues to ascend in the A-10, their ability to attract and develop versatile talents like Harper and Perry will be a key factor.

It will be exciting to see how these two recruits fit into the Rams’ system and what other pieces are added in the incoming class.
