Heron Favors Five

New England Recruiting Report | Sunday, August 9th, 2015

One aspect of Mustapha Heron's game that he doesn't quite get enough credit for is his endurance.

It's easy to see when he leads the Adidas Summer Championship field in scoring for three days or shows what a dominant defender he can be, but unless you're there watching every week his durability and ability to play with an incredibly steady motor for extremely long periods of time can go unnoticed.

Heron has certainly proved it in recent weeks. Like most young players, he had an extremely busy month of July. It began in Atlanta as he helped lead NY Rens to the Adidas Gauntlet Finale championship, continued the following week at the Adidas All-American Camp in Long Island and finished in Las Vegas with the Adidas Summer Championships.

But while most players go home and get some much needed rest once July comes to an end, Heron has kept right on playing. Last week he was in Los Angeles for Adidas Nations and this week it's been New York for the Big Strick Classic.

There's also been an update on his recruiting this week, beginning with quotes from his father, Bryan Heron, to the Republican-American.

The elder Heron told the local newspaper that Auburn, Mississippi State, St. John's, Marquette and Alabama made up his sons' top five and that they were targetting an October decision.

Right now, only one official visit is in the books and that's a trip to Mississippi State on the weekend of September 27th.

On Friday, Heron reportedly confirmed to SNY's Adam Zagoria that those are the five schools he's "most comfortable with" but also reiterated a statement he made in July that his list was not yet final and there was opportunities for others to get involved.
