Alekseyenko Chooses Colgate
Yesterday, Rivers School and Team White Mamba’s Andrew Alekseyenko announced his commitment to Colgate University.
The Brookline native has had quite the high school career, starting out at Brookline high school as an underclassmen on varsity and standing out right away.
It didn’t take long for him to catch traction within the prep ranks and take his talents to the NEPSAC Class B powerhouse at the Rivers School.
In his two years at Rivers, Alekseyenko proved to a focal point in the frontcourt. His Rivers squads have won back to back ISL and NEPSAC Class B titles.
Despite numerous big performances and catching the eye of local scouts game in and game out, Alekseyenko had yet to receive any scholarship opportunities.
In the fall of 2023, he announced he was reclassing to the class of 2025, a move which went on to pay off in a major way.
The 6’8 forward had a monster spring with Team White Mamba, proving himself to be one of the biggest stockrisers in the New England region.
Through the months of April to July, the big forward picked up offers from Boston University, NJIT, Albany, Penn, Bryant, Cornell, UMBC and Navy - a major shift in recruitment from what he had seen just a year prior.
When I asked Alekseyenko about his decision to reclassify he had this to say, “I think reclassing allowed me to spend a lot of time in the gym and helped me elevate my game to the next level,” which it surely did.
While Alekseyenko had been known as a true stretch forward in years prior, his improved handle and ability to break down defenders stood out this spring. He’s got a very strong frame which he uses well to pull down boards, and can jumpstart fast breaks in an instant with his passing vision.
When asked about his decision to choose Colgate, Alekseyenko spoke highly of the program; “I chose Colgate because of the great academics and winning culture they have. I have also built a great relationship with Coach Crocker and Coach Langel and they have been consistent in recruiting me.”
Winning culture is definitely a good way to describe Colgate as they have won the Patriot League title the past four seasons, five of the past seven, and made the championship game every year since 2018.
Coach Matt Langel’s teams have been known to be well equipped in spacing the floor for three’s and playing hard on defense, both of which describe the incoming recruit out of Brookline Massachusetts.
With a big final season on the horizon, the forward is locked in to Colgate and ready to contend once again in the NEPSAC.
