Andreo Ash Commits to Canisius

On January 9th, it was announced that Canterbury School 2025 forward Andreo Ash has committed to the Canisius Golden Griffins of the MAAC.

Ash has had a dominant senior season for the Canterbury Saints, averaging around 23 points and seven rebounds per game so far. His play has helped the Saints start the season 7-3, including a big win against St. Thomas More where he scored 30 points.

Ash similarly contributed to City Rocks Basketball of the Nike EYBL. He played 24.4 minutes per game, averaging 5.6 points per game on 45.5% from the field and 42.9% from behind the arc at the Peach Jam in July.

At 6-foot-8 and 225 pounds, Ash is able to use his size and athleticism to attack the glass on both offense and defense at a high level. Combined with his touch around the basket and in the mid-range he is a nightmare for opposing wings and bigs.

Prior to transferring to the Canterbury School in the fall of 2023, Ash started his high school career in Liverpool, New York. At Liverpool, Ash was a standout talent helping the team to sectional championships, and narrowly missing a state championship berth in his final season. For the 2022-23 season he was named the All-Central New York player of the year.

When asked what led him to the decision to commit to Canisius, Ash told NERR, “I really liked my visit there and going to see the school’s campus. The coaching staff had been consistent in talking with me, so it was an easy decision.”

Canisius is led by Head Coach Jim Christian who is currently in his first year with the program. Coach Christian has quite the resume having spent time as the head coach at Kent State, TCU, Ohio, and Boston College.

The Golden Griffins have struggled to start their 2024-25 season, posting a record of 1-15. Adding a player with Ash’s versatility will surely help them improve next season. His rebounding, in particular, will be valuable to a team that currently ranks last in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in rebounds per game.

Ash thanked those who have supported him on his journey, highlighting the people he is most grateful for: “Most definitely, family, friends, and teammates have supported me so much along the way, and I’m thankful for them. My coaches from both high schools, Liverpool and Canterbury, have helped me, as well as coaches from AAU, including City Rocks this past year and the Jayhawks, where I played for three years.”
