2024 Frosh/Soph North #E75 - The Guards pt. 3
With a large amount of aspiring college players in the classes of 2027 and 2028 packing the gym almost two weeks ago now, there is a massive wealth of players to monitor moving forward. The recap continues with the third installment of the guards from the Massachusetts event.
Duke Clement, Newman - A skilled guard prospect moving to Boston from New York, Clement played well at the showcase. He showed off some lead guard skills, reading the floor and getting others involved, as well as his clean release on pull-up shots and finishing abilities.
Lamar Janvier, Tabor - The Bridgewater native has notable two-way ability to his game as he played tough on-ball defense and scored buckets from outside. His communication with his teammates, calling out screens and switches is a good aspect of his game, as well as his speed with the ball.
Isaiah Ferguson, Academy of Notre Dame Tyngsboro - A standout guard at the JUnior Elite 75 in March, Ferguson stood out once again. He's got a strong scoring skillset with shot creation skills off the dribble and hits three-pointers in bunches. As he continues to build his offensive arsenal, and gets more comfortable running an offense, he is a guard to watch.
Thomas Quinlan, Roxbury Latin - Quinlan showed off some crafty moves at the guard spot throughout the night. He uses hesitations well and has some wiggle to his handle to keep the defense on edge. His ability to stop on a dime for pull-up's was notable too.
Makai Brimage, Mount Pleasant - The Rhode Island native brings a well-rounded game to the guard position. He stood out on offense with good body control on finishes around the basket, and showed off his athleticism. He's always got an eye out for open teammates and competes hard on the defensive end.
Lucas Mashikian, Roxbury Latin - Mashikian had a good outing, and ability to impact the game without the ball in his hands. His rebounding motor was well noted with his defensive impact catching our eye as well.
Charles Tutwiler , Andover - Another familiar face from the ZGXL 15U champions at PSG, Tutwiler continued to stand out. He's a high-motor player with some quick feet on defense to stay with his man. He's pretty efficient as an outside shooter, and does well as a playmaker when going downhill.
Polo Cineus, Belmont Hill - Cineus is an undersized guard that makes a big impact on the game regardless. He's got command of the ball with a handle to get past defenders. He's quick, moves his feet well on defense and finishes shots amongst taller defenders in the paint.
Ned Grigsby, Xaverian Brothers - Grigsby made some shots from inside and out throughout the showcase. He ran the floor in transition, filling lanes to the basket, as well as hit three's with his quick release from behind the line.
Aidan Knight, Winchendon - The rising sophomore put on a nice display at the Elite 75, scoring from all around the court. He was able to knock down three's in a variety of ways, most notably off the dribble and when rotating up for catch and shoot attempts. His ball control with both hands is impressive, and he crashes the boards on both ends.
Julian Donovan, Rocky Hill - Coming up from Rhode Island, Donovan showed a promising bag at the guard spot. He has a quick handle on the ball and uses his body to limit turnovers and keep it on his side. He made shots off the dribble and used his speedy spin move when driving the lane for shots off the glass.
Hazel Nguidjoi, Andover - The incoming freshman has shown early development with his frame as he brings strength and physicality to the table. His shooting versatility stood out as he hit stepbacks and a number of pull-up shots from mid-range and three.
Weston Tayebati, Beaver Country Day - The BCDS incoming freshman has some upside to his game. He did a good job of getting into the paint on drives and absorbing contact to convert around the rim.
Josiah Bates, South High - The Worcester based prospect is a standout two-way guard with impressive defensive tenacity to his game. He has quick feet and backpedals and adjusts well defensively to cause havoc. Times his hands well to reach for steals and has good upside as his offensive arsenal continues to develop through the years.
Curtis Dawn Jr, Fenway HS - Dawn brings some impressive speed and defense to the court to complement his finishing ability. He leverages his low center of gravity to pick opposing guards pocket and run the floor for layups. He's got jolt and uses long strides when driving to the basket.
Sean Costello, Boston College - Junior Elite 75 alumni Sean Costello put his impressive scoring skills on display at Frosh/Soph. His shooting ability from outside is notable, but he's a threat to put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket and get a bucket too. Watch out for Costello's potential as he enters his freshman year at BC High.
Michon Taylor, Community Charter School of Cambridge - As he continues to grow into his body, Taylor will be an interesting prospect to monitor. He has long arms and athleticism to play tough on-ball defense, as well as a good feel for the game. His passing vision stands out and he has some three-level scoring skills in his toolbelt.
Michael Caterino, Watertown - Caterino's defensive ability was eyecatching as he held his own throughout the night guarding on-ball. His ability to stop on a dime to pull-up for jumpers was notable as well as he brings a clean release.
AJ Jones, Catholic Memorial - Jones showed some promise at the point guard spot, making plays for himself and getting others involved. He snaps passes cross-court to teammates and has vision to find the open man. His handle allows him to create separation and adds a nice touch to his mid-range ability.
Brandon Garcia, Blackstone Valley - Garcia has good tempo to his game and is able to make plays from different spots around the court. He has a shot from outside and is a shifty ballhandler. He does well getting into the lane and being able to find cutting teammates or open shooters.
Jsiar Diaz, University Park - Diaz has smooth handling ability to him with a quick ability to shift his body and attack the basket. His shooting ability from mid and long range were noticeable in drills and look to be worth building on moving forward.
Ryan Frigiani, Dover Sherborn - The Dover Sherborn guard brings some three-level scoring ability to the table, notably pouring in some points throughout the night. He's a shooter from outside with a smooth release and does well attacking the basket to finish his layups.
Adrian Paliling, Champlain Valley Union - The Vermont native has a quick twitch with the ball at the lead guard spot. His handle opens up the floor as he manuevers his way around, he makes tough shots in the paint and does well running the offense to get others their desired shot attempts.
